Role Description

About the Role

We are looking for a Workato Automation Consultant to join our Integration Process Automation (IPA) practice in Sydney. This is a hands-on, client-facing consulting role. You will work as part of the client's team, building strong relationships with business stakeholders to understand their problems, run discovery workshops, shape the right solution, and rapidly build prototypes and Workflow Apps in Workato that turn into production automations delivering measurable business outcomes.

This role is distinct from a Workato Integration Developer. Rather than focusing on system-to-system connectivity, custom connectors and API engineering, the Automation Consultant starts with the business process: understanding how work gets done today, identifying where automation and AI can add value, and delivering solutions that business users adopt and trust. You will collaborate with integration specialists where deeper API or data integration work is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Business engagement and workshops: Plan and facilitate discovery and design workshops with client business teams to understand pain points, objectives, volumes and constraints.
  • Problem solving: Translate business problems into clear automation opportunities, recommend the right approach, and articulate expected value such as time saved, error reduction and faster cycle times.
  • Process analysis: Map current and future state processes, identify exceptions and approval points, and define clear, testable requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Prototyping: Rapidly build prototypes and proofs of concept in Workato to validate ideas with stakeholders early, gather feedback and iterate quickly.
  • Workflow Apps: Design and build Workato Workflow Apps, including user-facing pages, request forms, approval flows, task queues, data tables and human-in-the-loop steps that business users interact with directly.
  • Automation delivery: Build, test and deploy robust, well-documented Workato recipes, following UST and client standards for reusability, naming, error handling, logging, security and environment promotion.
  • AI-enabled automation: Apply Workato AI capabilities such as Genies and AI agents to automate decision-making and unstructured work, with appropriate guardrails and human review.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with business owners, architects, integration specialists and delivery teams to ensure solutions align to business needs.
  • Client relationships: Work as an integrated part of the client's team, building trusted, long-term relationships with business and technical stakeholders and acting as an approachable, reliable point of contact.
  • Adoption and support: Support user acceptance testing, deployment and hypercare, train business users, produce handover documentation and runbooks, and continuously improve automations after go-live.
  • Consulting contribution: Contribute to solution estimates, demos and presales activities, and help build reusable assets, accelerators and best practices for the UST IPA practice.

Required Skills And Experience

  • Workato certifications (e.g. Automation Pro I, II or III, or related certifications).
  • 1+ years of hands-on Workato development experience delivering production automations.
  • 5+ years of process automation development experience with an API-first mindset, favouring API-based automation over UI-driven RPA wherever the target systems allow. Experience across platforms such as Workato, MuleSoft, Power Automate or SAP Build Process Automation, with exposure to RPA tools such as UiPath, Automation Anywhere or Blue Prism, and a track record of modernising existing RPA bots into API-led automation.
  • Demonstrated experience running workshops and engaging directly with business stakeholders in a consulting or client-facing setting.
  • Strong process analysis and problem-solving skills, with the ability to challenge and simplify processes before automating them.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including active listening, empathy and adaptability, with a proven ability to build rapport and work effectively within client teams
  • Excellent communication, presentation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience with common enterprise applications such as Salesforce, ServiceNow, Workday, NetSuite, SAP, Jira, Slack or Microsoft 365.
  • Working knowledge of REST APIs, JSON, webhooks, basic data transformation and common authentication methods such as OAuth 2.0 and API keys.

Preferred Skills And Experience

  • Practical experience building Workato Workflow Apps and human-in-the-loop processes.
  • Experience with Workato Genies, agentic AI or LLM-based automation.
  • Exposure to the Workato Connector SDK, SQL or a scripting language such as Ruby, Python or JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with Agile delivery, Lean or process improvement methodologies, and tools such as Jira and Confluence.
  • Prior professional services or consulting experience with Australian enterprise or public sector clients.

Benefits & Perks

  • Flexible/hybrid working arrangements.
  • Health insurance.
  • Novated Car Lease.
  • Access to UST Perks (Reward Gateway), which offers discounts across major retailers.
