We supply, hire and support communications equipment for a wide range of customers, from day-to-day business users through to major events and large-scale projects. We're looking for an experienced Warehouse & Logistics Manager to take ownership of our busy Sales and Hire logistics operation in Wickford. The Role This is a hands-on management role. You'll be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day running of our warehouse and logistics operation, covering both sales orders and our hire fleet, while working alongside the team and getting involved in the day-to-day work yourself. We're not looking for someone who simply manages from a desk. You'll need to learn our products, systems and processes and be comfortable helping with everything from goods-in, picking and packing sales orders and stock control through to preparing, programming and checking hire radios when the workload requires it. You'll lead a small team, organise priorities and make sure work gets completed accurately and on time. You'll also be expected to identify problems, improve processes and take ownership of the overall organisation and efficiency of the warehouse. It's a varied role in a fast-paced environment, so we're looking for someone practical, organised and proactive who isn't afraid to get stuck in. Key Responsibilities Warehouse & Team Management - Take day-to-day responsibility for the smooth running of the warehouse and logistics operation. - Lead, support and organise the Sales and Hire logistics teams. - Set daily priorities and allocate work according to customer requirements and deadlines. - Work alongside the team and provide practical support during busy periods. - Monitor workloads, productivity and standards, addressing issues before they affect customers. - Ensure the warehouse, goods-in/out and hire areas remain clean, organised and safe. - Help train and develop team members and encourage a culture of ownership and accountability. Sales Logistics - Oversee goods-in, ensuring deliveries are checked, booked in and stored promptly and accurately. - Ensure sales orders are picked, packed and dispatched accurately and on time. - Monitor outstanding orders and work with Sales and Purchasing to resolve stock or delivery issues. - Coordinate couriers, freight and other transport requirements. - Ensure shipping documentation and courier manifests are completed accurately. - Maintain accurate stock locations and inventory records. Hire Logistics - Oversee the preparation, allocation, dispatch and return of our two-way radio and communications hire equipment. - Ensure hire equipment is prepared, programmed, tested, cleaned and quality checked before dispatch. - Ensure returned equipment is promptly checked, cleaned and made available for its next hire. - Identify damaged or faulty equipment and coordinate repairs with our Service team. - Maintain accurate visibility of hire fleet availability and equipment location. - Ensure hire orders are complete, accurate and ready to meet agreed customer deadlines. - Support the team directly with equipment preparation, programming, packing and returns when required. Stock & Asset Control - Maintain accurate stock and asset records across Sales and Hire. - Ensure physical stock matches company systems. - Oversee regular stock checks and stocktakes. - Investigate discrepancies, missing equipment and stock issues. - Ensure equipment is stored correctly and can be located quickly. - Monitor packing materials and other essential warehouse consumables. Operational Improvement - Review existing warehouse and logistics processes and identify opportunities to improve them. - Improve warehouse layout, organisation and workflow where required. - Look for ways to reduce errors, improve turnaround times and increase efficiency. - Identify unnecessary costs and opportunities to make better use of existing stock and equipment. - Work closely with Operations, Sales, Purchasing, Service and other departments to resolve issues. - Help develop processes that can cope with busy periods and changing operational demands. What We're Looking For Essential - Previous experience in a warehouse, logistics, distribution, equipment hire or similar operational environment. - Previous team leader, supervisor or management experience. - Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities. - A hands-on approach – you must be willing to work alongside the team rather than only supervise. - Good stock control and inventory management experience. - Strong attention to detail. - Comfortable working in a busy, fast-paced environment. - Good computer literacy and confidence learning new systems. - Able to identify problems and take ownership of resolving them. - Good communication skills and the confidence to work with different departments. - A practical, common-sense approach to getting work completed. - Ability to remain calm and organised when priorities change. Desirable - Experience within equipment hire, tool hire, plant hire or a similar rental environment. - Experience managing both sales/distribution stock and hire assets. - Experience using ERP, inventory or warehouse management systems. - Experience coordinating couriers, deliveries and collections. - Experience with two-way radios or other technical/electronic equipment. - Experience programming or configuring technical equipment. Previous radio experience is not essential – full product and system training will be provided. The Person We're looking for somebody who: - Takes ownership rather than waiting to be told what to do. - Leads by example and is happy to get their hands dirty. - Notices when something isn't right and takes action to resolve it. - Can balance customer deadlines with the wider priorities of the business. - Sets high standards for accuracy, organisation and quality. - Is commercially aware and considers cost when making decisions. - Can motivate and organise a small team. - Is interested in learning our products and understanding how the operation works as a whole. - Looks for better ways of doing things rather than simply accepting existing processes.
