Location: Chicago metropolitan area — primarily on-site with some travel to satellite locations Compensation: $110,000–$160,000 annually, plus a performance-based bonus Reports to: President/CEO The Lin-Mar Group is a growing group of towing companies serving customers throughout the Midwest. The organization operates across multiple locations and provides essential, time-sensitive services to commercial and municipal customers. We are seeking a hands-on Vice President & General Manager to help strengthen our process infrastructure, improve performance across the group, and ensure the organization functions smoothly as it continues to grow. This person will become a key member of the leadership team, and will receive a high degree of responsibility and autonomy. The Lin-Mar Vice President & General Manager will work closely with the President and Board of Directors to improve accountability, and consistency across the organization. This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership role with several direct reports. The successful candidate will design and execute operating processes, establish meaningful KPIs, analyze performance, and translate data into action. The role is well suited to a senior operator or former management consultant who is comfortable moving between strategic analysis and day-to-day execution. Previous experience in towing, transportation, logistics, or another multi-site service business would be very helpful but is not required. Operational Leadership Oversee and coordinate day-to-day operations across multiple towing businesses and locations. Manage and develop several direct reports, create clear responsibilities and performance expectations. Work closely with location managers, dispatch, drivers and admin staff to evaluate and resolve operational issues. Establish consistent operating practices across the group while recognizing the needs of individual locations. Ensure each organization is properly staffed and that resources are deployed efficiently. Help create a culture of accountability, responsiveness, and continuous improvement. Processes and Systems Evaluate existing workflows and execute practical, scalable processes to improve efficiency and consistency. Implement consistent operating procedures, management processes, and internal controls across the organization. Identify opportunities to improve dispatching, scheduling, billing and communication. KPIs and Analytics Develop reporting and dashboards covering key operating and financial metrics. Monitor measures such as call volume, revenue per call, driver productivity, labor utilization, response times, fleet availability, customer performance, and profitability. Analyze performance by driver, customer, location, service category, and time period. Identify any underlying causes of performance gaps and work with managers to implement corrective actions. Provide the Co-Presidents and Board of Directors with clear, timely reporting and practical recommendations. Financial and Commercial Performance Work with the President, Board of Directors, and Group Controller to develop operating plans, budgets, and performance targets. Help improve pricing , revenue models, labor efficiency, and overall profitability. Review customer and service-line performance to identify risks and opportunities. Assist with operational planning and M&A integration as the group grows. Coach managers to become stronger, more accountable leaders. Act as point person for operational inquires Establish regular performance reviews and operating meetings. Help identify organizational gaps and participate in recruiting, onboarding, and developing team members. Build effective working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization. The ideal candidate will bring: Approximately 5–10 years of experience in operations, management consulting, towing, transportation, logistics or a comparable environment. Experience managing people and improving performance through clear goals, measurement, and accountability. Strong analytical skills and the ability to turn operational and financial data into practical actions. Experience designing or improving business processes and operating systems. Comfort working in a fast-moving, decentralized, and entrepreneurial organization. The ability to communicate effectively with executives, managers and other frontline employees. Self-Driven, strong judgment, initiative, and follow-through. Based in Chicagoland, with a willingness to travel to other satellite locations throughout Illinois. Proficiency with Excel and experience developing management reports or dashboards. A bachelors or masters degree in business, engineering, operations, finance, or a related field is preferred. Experience in towing, transportation, logistics or another multi-location service business is an asset but is not required. Willing to work hard, often with irregular hours, due to the nature of the industry. The ideal candidate will have significant flexibility and autonomy, but will be required to meet the demands of the industry, which often involves irregular hours and/or commitments beyond the typical workday schedule. During the first year, the Operations Manager will be expected to: Establish reliable operating and KPI reporting across the group. Improve visibility into call volume, driver productivity, pricing, labor utilization, and profitability. Introduce consistent processes, management routines and accountability across locations. Identify and implement measurable opportunities to improve revenue and operating efficiency. Strengthen the management team and reduce day-to-day dependence on the Co-Presidents. Create a scalable operating foundation that supports continued growth. Put in the time and effort required to be successful in this position – this role is a standard 9-5 position. The anticipated base salary range is $110,000–$160,000, depending on experience and qualifications. The position is also eligible for a performance-based bonus.
