Vice President of Engineering
Omatic Software | Remote (US), with one on-site week per quarter in Charleston, SC
Reports to: Chief Product and Technology Officer (CPTO)
About Omatic
Omatic Software is a data integration and data trust platform built for nonprofits. Our long-standing plugin products connect CRM platforms to the systems around them. Omatic Cloud, built on Microsoft Azure, is the next generation of that work. It gives organizations a governed, trusted view of their data across records, connectors, transformation pipelines, identity resolution and a semantic model.
The Role
We're hiring a Vice President of Engineering to lead the teams that build and run our products, including infrastructure, development, platform, site reliability (SRE) and delivery. This is a hands-on operator role. The CPTO sets direction; you make that direction real in production.
You will lead an engineering organization of 20+ people through a meaningful evolution:
- Moving our established customer base to Omatic Cloud. You'll lead the engineering effort to bring existing connector use cases to our cloud services on a defined timeline. - Evolving how we organize. We're moving from traditional teams to outcome-oriented teams across Platform, Cloud Services, Delivery and SRE. - Building a stronger platform layer in Azure. You'll build on our existing cloud foundations to speed up service development and improve resilience.
What You'll Own
- Team structure and operating model. Set up outcome-focused teams with clear charters, backlogs, metrics and leads. - Reliability and release discipline. Establish reliability as a practice: published SLOs and error budgets, a sustainable on-call rotation, incident review and a defined release process. - Roadmap delivery. Work with Product to deliver the roadmap predictably and to report engineering progress, capacity and spend in terms the business can act on. - Customer migration outcomes. Partner with Product and Customer teams to move customers to Omatic Cloud smoothly. - Talent and culture. Hire, develop and retain strong engineers, and build a culture where documentation and knowledge sharing count as delivery. - AI-enabled engineering. Evolve our software development lifecycle to take advantage of AI-assisted development.
How You'll Work
- Cadence: You'll run the engineering leadership meeting and co-own priorities with Product. You'll chair release and incident reviews and present a monthly engineering report to the CPTO and CFO. - Cross-functional partnership: You'll work closely with the CPTO, Product and Finance, and contribute to board-level reporting. - Planning: You'll co-author the annual budget and headcount plan.
What You Bring
Required
- Experience as the senior engineering leader of an organization of 15 to 50 people, reporting to a CTO, CPTO or CEO, ideally in a private equity-backed or similarly capital-disciplined software company - A practical, forward-looking approach to AI in the software development lifecycle - Experience leading a team through structural change, such as moving from component teams to product or outcome teams, and the judgment to say what you'd do differently next time - A track record of hiring engineers against a defined plan, including senior or staff-level talent, and of addressing performance issues while keeping the team strong - Experience owning production for a multi-tenant SaaS platform, including on-call, incident management, SLOs, postmortems and reliability reporting to executives or a board - Experience building or running integration products at scale, such as connector ecosystems, ETL pipelines, data synchronization or multi-consumer data platforms - Experience reporting engineering capacity, spend and delivery to a CFO, board or investor
Strongly preferred
- Graph or semantic data experience, or probabilistic identity resolution and entity matching - Workflow orchestration platforms and multi-cloud (AWS and Azure) operations - Experience moving from manual QA to engineer-owned quality with test automation
What Makes Someone Successful Here
- You give teams ownership, set clear metrics and hold yourself and others accountable to results. - You communicate in numbers upward and reasons downward, and you raise risks early. - You're candid and respectful when roles and responsibilities change. - You value sustainable practices, like a healthy on-call rotation, over heroics. - You're a strong operator who enjoys partnering with a strategic leader.
