This is an embedded, hands-on therapeutic role, working primarily within Emerge School while also supporting children and teams across our residential services. The Therapeutic Practitioner will help embed Roots to Wings, our bespoke therapeutic model, into children’s everyday experiences. They will work directly with children, deliver our structured REACH intervention, work alongside staff in classrooms and support teams to understand children from a relational, developmental and psychologically informed perspective. This role would particularly suit a psychology graduate who wants to develop practical experience of therapeutic and psychologically informed work with children. About Group Therapeutic Services Our Group Therapeutic Services team currently includes: Group Director of Therapeutic Services / Consultant Forensic Psychologist Group Head of Therapeutic Services / Principal Forensic Psychologist Creative Therapist The team works across The Connective Care Group, supporting: Emerge Care and Therapeutic Solutions Solice Care Excel Care Emplace Care Emerge School Our aim is to make therapeutic thinking part of children’s everyday care and education rather than something that happens only within a therapy room. Key Responsibilities Embedded Work within Emerge School You will: maintain a regular and visible presence within the school; work directly alongside children within classrooms and the wider school environment; support children with regulation, relationships, engagement and emotional development; observe children within their everyday environment and bring a reflective perspective to their presentation; help staff consider what may sit beneath behaviour and how children may be communicating their needs; model relational and therapeutic approaches; support staff to translate therapeutic recommendations into practical classroom approaches; and contribute to relevant school meetings and discussions. Roots to Wings You will support the embedding of our Roots to Wings therapeutic model across school and residential care. This will include modelling the approach, supporting staff to understand the model and helping translate therapeutic principles into everyday interactions with children. REACH You will be trained and supported to deliver our bespoke REACH intervention. You will: deliver planned individual and/or group interventions; develop safe and purposeful relationships with children; adapt sessions to children's developmental and individual needs; record engagement and progress; contribute to reviewing outcomes; and share relevant learning with the wider team supporting the child. Direct and Reflective Work You will undertake planned direct work with children around areas such as: emotional awareness and regulation; relationships and trust; self-esteem and identity; social and emotional development; and understanding and communicating needs. You will also contribute observations to reflective discussions, therapeutic planning and psychologically informed formulation under appropriate supervision. Children's Homes Although primarily based within Emerge School, this is a Group Therapeutic Services role. You will undertake planned work across our children's homes, including direct work, observations, supporting staff and helping embed Roots to Wings. A key part of the role is helping create consistency between children's experiences at school and at home. Reporting and Working Relationships You will be line managed and professionally supervised by the Group Head of Therapeutic Services / Principal Forensic Psychologist. As you will be embedded within Emerge School, the Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher/SENCO will also identify and direct key pieces of school-based work in partnership with Group Therapeutic Services. You will work closely with the Group Director of Therapeutic Services / Consultant Forensic Psychologist, Creative Therapist, education staff, Registered Managers and residential teams. Person Specification Essential Degree in Psychology or a closely related subject, or equivalent relevant qualification and experience. Experience of working with children or young people. Understanding of child development, relationships, attachment and the impact of trauma and adversity. Ability to develop safe and positive relationships with children. Reflective and curious approach to behaviour and children's needs. Ability to work effectively alongside education, care and therapeutic colleagues. Strong communication and recording skills. Ability to work within professional boundaries and make good use of supervision. Commitment to safeguarding children. Understanding of neurodivergence and how this may influence a child’s communication, regulation, relationships and behaviour. Ability and willingness to travel between Connective Care Group services. Desirable Psychology degree providing eligibility for Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) with the British Psychological Society. Experience within specialist education, residential childcare, SEND/SEMH, mental health or therapeutic services. Experience of delivering structured interventions. Knowledge of developmental trauma and psychologically informed practice. Experience of observation, outcome measurement or contributing to formulation-informed work. Professional Development You will receive regular supervision from the Group Head of Therapeutic Services / Principal Forensic Psychologist and work alongside our wider multidisciplinary Therapeutic Services team. You will be able to look beyond presenting behaviour and ask what might be happening for this child and what might they need from the adults around them? You will enjoy working where children's lives happen, in classrooms, homes and everyday interactions and will be comfortable working directly with children while also helping the adults around them think and respond therapeutically.
