ROLE PURPOSE: Reporting to the Assistant Manufacturing Manager, the Joining & Cutting Operative is a key role in the development of the Manufacturing Department. The Joining & Cutting Operative is responsible for supporting the manufacture of drapery and ensuring the sewing machinists have work always supplied. There will be a focus to continually develop efficiencies across the department to improve capacity. The Operative will predominantly work with fabric elements within the business, using, joining, and testing our vast fabric range whilst supporting the sewing machinists with cutting and trimming fabrics to a high level of accuracy in measurements and fault identification. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ACTIVITIES: - Ensure the joining machines are utilised and effectively monitored, by feeding in the raw materials and controlling the machines performance and settings. - Ensure the two joining machines are always in full working order, highlighting any maintenance issues to the Production Coordinator if an engineer can be scheduled promptly. - Conduct time and motion studies of the machines to ensure we are using the machines to the optimum operating capacity. - Undertake fabric testing on the joining machines, ensuring that each stocked fabric is suitable to be used on a regular basis. - Ensure all scanning time is allocated correctly to the Works Order documentation through the SFDC software. - Ensure all Manufacturing Works Order paperwork is reviewed prior to working and all QA inspections have been completed. - Feedback to the senior team and management regarding the performance of the joining machines and availability for planning purposes. - When required, assist the Manufacturing Team with the day-to-day manufacture of drapes when capacity is low. - Manufacture drapes to a high-quality standard and efficiently carry out quality checks and fault identification during the process. - To have a proactive attitude in a fast-paced department - Carry out basic servicing on the eyeleting and other additional equipment that includes cleaning & lubrication. - Assist the Sewing Technician team where necessary, with the movement of large drapes, squaring and trimming of cloth/drapes to ensure the efficiency of the department does not suffer. - Ability to read technical drawings and understand specifications. - Ensure personal workspace is always kept clean and tidy and when required assist with departmental cleaning as instructed by your supervisor. - A flexible working ethos due to last-minute overtime may be required. - Maintain good levels of communication within the department to ensure accurate information is received and passed on to the team when required. - Participate in, and promote, any company schemes or policies as and when required to further the development of the department and /or company. - Challenge existing working practices within and outside the department to improve service and efficiency levels, ensuring management is kept always informed. · Any other ad-hoc duties considered reasonable, as requested by the Assistant Manufacturing Manager and Global Manufacturing Manager. The above duties, albeit being quite specific, are not all exhaustive and there may be times when other requirements are expected to carry out the role to the expectations of the company. SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: Essential: · Excellent organisational, communicational and time management skills are essential. · Ability to think outside the box and to time manage well. · Ability to work well under pressure and be self-motivated. · Good physical stamina and keen attention to detail with previous experience in a manual role. · Fluency in both written and verbal English for understanding of our Works Order documentation. · Good understanding of numeracy and calculation skills for the understanding of our Works Order documentation. Desirable: · Previous experience of operating machinery is desired, but not essential.
