Test Engineer & Technical Support Specialist Janus Technology Ltd — Sawston, Cambridge We build smart-home integrations, AV control drivers, and building management systems used by installers and integrators across the industry. We're a small team, which means your work ships fast and you can see the difference it makes. We're looking for someone hands-on who enjoys breaking things before customers do, then explaining clearly how to put them right. What you'll be doing This role blends three things: testing our products, supporting the people who install them, and creating the guides that make both easier. Testing and investigation Build and maintain test plans, environments, and device configurations that mirror real installations Configure and test on platforms such as Control4, RTI, and Crestron Test drivers, integrations, features, and bug fixes before release Reproduce customer-reported issues, analyse logs and device communications, and get to root cause Give developers clear diagnostic information, then retest and confirm the fix Keep our library of test hardware, drivers, and configurations organised Customer and installer support Manage support tickets and help installers and integrators resolve technical issues Guide users through setup, configuration, and troubleshooting — including remote access to customer systems where needed Spot recurring problems and turn them into product or process improvements Documentation and video Write installer guides, user guides, quick-start guides, and knowledge-base content Produce step-by-step setup and troubleshooting instructions, FAQs, screenshots, and diagrams Plan, record, and edit short setup and troubleshooting videos with screen capture, callouts, and voiceovers Keep everything accurate as the products evolve Video is a small part of the role today, with plenty of room to grow it if that's an area you want to own. What we're looking for Experience in software testing, QA, technical support, or a similar hands-on technical role Experience creating technical documentation Excellent written and verbal communication, and real attention to detail A good understanding of networking fundamentals, IP devices, and serial communication Experience with helpdesk, ticketing, or project-management systems Basic video recording and editing experience (or a willingness to learn) Well organised, able to work independently, and happy to pick up new technologies Nice to have Control4, RTI, Crestron, URC, ELAN, or similar control platforms Wireshark, Postman, SSH, Telnet, or serial-console tools TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, routing, and switching Git, GitLab, Jira, Azure DevOps, or Monday.com Testing IoT, AV, or embedded hardware products OBS Studio, Camtasia, DaVinci Resolve, or similar AV-over-IP and smart-home technologies AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot or Claude Don't worry if you don't tick every box — if you've got the core testing and communication skills, we'll help you learn the rest.
