To ensure that quality and output levels are maximised, without compromising the health and safety of you or your colleagues. MAIN TASKS OF THE JOB: HEALTH & SAFETY Managing production line Health & Safety namely: - Working in a safe manner and adhering to health and safety procedures. - Ensuring that all personnel are working in a safe manner, adhering to health and safety procedures. - Reporting any unsafe working practices, near-hits or unsafe plant to the Operations Manager or his designee. - Ensure that the area of the line you are managing is kept in an orderly manner with emphasis on cleanliness. - Ensure that the production line/machines you are managing are safely shut down before leaving the workstation. QUALITY Ensure that all product manufactured is of a sufficient quality standard, seeking guidance from the Operations Manager or his designee if in doubt. With emphasis on the following: - Dimensional accuracy to drawings & templates - Product specification - Machined and sanded finish - Paint coverage - Stacking of product - Packaging of product - Correct quantity OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY Ensure maximum output is achieved on the line by: · Utilising your skills and those of the line personnel, to set the line accurately and efficiently. - Running the product at the fastest possible speed that the plant and product quality will allow. - Ensuring that any problems on the line that result in non-productive time are dealt with as quickly as possible - Maximising the raw material yield by proactive use of the off-cuts generated. - Contributing to and implementing Continuous Improvement initiatives. - Carry out routine maintenance and housekeeping as required or directed. - Fully utilize all consumable materials (e.g. sanding brushes, cardboard, packaging materials) ensuring that maximum usage is gained. - Facilitate a smooth handover to the next shift with particular emphasis on: Ø Product counts (finished goods and work-in-progress) Ø Off cut usage Ø Technical problems with the line TEAM LEADERSHIP Manage your staff effectively by: - Leading and motivating your team. - Ensuring that all staff under your control are managed, organized and trained to enable them to carry out their duties. - Identifying the training needs of your team members. - Ensuring that all personnel make positive contributions and fully understand what is expected of them. - Involving the team in problem solving and decision making. - Taking lower-level disciplinary action (counseling) with staff if necessary PERSONAL / ENVIRONMENT - Commit to self-development and training as required - Ensure all personnel conform to ISO 9001 & ISO 45001 regulations, taking appropriate investigative action in case of non-conformances. - Ensure accurate completion of all relevant paperwork and computerized data logs. - Provide cover for other functions during break and holiday times - Assist in the general upkeep and housekeeping of all areas on site including all internal and external areas. - Assist in the upkeep of the canteen/toilet area. - At shift end (assuming the is no shift scheduled directly after yours) ensure that all machinery, lights, extraction system, air compressors and other pieces of factory kit are shut down properly and left in a safe manner. - If you are the last one to leave the premises, ensure that all doors and gates are properly locked and e-stopped where possible. - Take all reasonable steps to reduce the levels of carbon emission by ensuring that all aspects of energy usage are formally controlled. - The above is not an exhaustive list of duties, and you will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by your changing role within the organisation and the overall business objectives of the organisation.
