Find your story in our books! In editorial, when a book proposal is received, the editor decides whether or not to pursue it for acquisition. An editor works with the author to turn the manuscript into a finished book. They negotiate contracts, edit the books for content, structure and on a line-by-line basis, and collaborate with internal departments on how to package, market, and publicize the book. Editors need to know what’s trending, what can sell to which target market, and what fits with their particular imprint. Some responsibilities may include: - Evaluating submissions and writing reader’s reports - Assisting with copy writing, and researching comp titles - Attend virtual editorial meetings, provide insights based on your own reading and in response to editors' submissions. Departments The departments seeking an intern may include: Random House Childrens Books: WaterBrook Knopf Books for Young Readers Penguin Young Readers: Kokila and Putnam INTERNSHIP PROGRAM DETAILS Penguin Random House offers a 10-week PAID, REMOTE internship opportunity available in our adult, children’s, and corporate divisions. Interns are exposed to the publishing process and our business through panels, networking events, and employee speaker series! Summer interns work for 28 hours per week and are paid $21/hour. What you study does not matter! We are looking for your desire to work with books, your drive to learn and your curiosity for the publishing industry. Application Deadline: October 2nd, 2026, at 11:59pm EST Program Dates: June 7th, 2027 – August 12th, 2027 Qualifications REQUIREMENTS & ELIGIBILITY - Must be ready to work full-time on or before June 2028 (You do not need to be enrolled in college or have a degree to apply to our internship program). - Able to work 28 hours/week throughout the program - Available and commit to the program working June 7th, 2027 – August 12th, 2027 - Must reside in the U.S. for the duration of the internship program - Must be over the age of 18 TO APPLY: Submit your resume and cover letter using our online application process.  You must submit a cover letter to be considered for our internship program.
