Stores & Warehouse Manager

Gem Cable Solutions | St Albans, Hertfordshire | Full-time, Permanent | On-site

Lead our warehouse. Drive excellence. Make a difference.

Are you an experienced Stores or Warehouse Manager who takes pride in creating efficient, well-organised operations and developing a high-performing team?

At Gem Cable Solutions, we're looking for a proactive, hands-on Stores & Warehouse Manager to take ownership of our warehouse operations, drive inventory accuracy and ensure materials flow seamlessly through our specialist manufacturing business.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing, technically driven UK manufacturer supplying high-reliability cable assemblies, looms, panels, fibre optics and network solutions to demanding industries, including aerospace.

As an AS9100D-certified quality-focused business, we understand the importance of precision, traceability and doing things right first time. You'll play a key role in ensuring our warehouse operation supports these standards while delivering the efficiency, accuracy and service our customers expect.

What you'll be doing

Reporting to the General Manager, you'll take responsibility for the day-to-day operation, organisation and performance of the stores and warehouse.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing warehouse operations: Oversee the receipt, inspection, storage, picking, assembly, relocation and dispatch of materials and products.
  • Driving stock accuracy: Maintain accurate inventory records, oversee daily stock checks, cycle counts and periodic stocktakes, and investigate discrepancies.
  • Ensuring material availability: Work closely with Production, Engineering and Quality to ensure materials are available when needed and production schedules are supported.
  • Managing inventory performance: Monitor stock levels, stock turns, inventory value, obsolete stock, scrap and material yield, identifying opportunities to improve performance and reduce waste.
  • Maintaining traceability: Ensure materials are correctly identified, labelled, stored and controlled in accordance with applicable quality requirements and procedures.
  • Supporting cable manufacturing: Oversee cable cutting and preparation activities in accordance with Bills of Materials (BOMs), drawings and work instructions.
  • Managing goods in and out: Ensure incoming deliveries are safely received, checked and booked in, and outgoing goods are accurately picked, packed and dispatched.
  • Coordinating transport: Liaise with suppliers, couriers and transport companies to manage deliveries and collections efficiently.
  • Maintaining a safe, organised workplace: Promote excellent housekeeping, ensure compliance with health and safety requirements and maintain a clean, efficient and fit-for-purpose warehouse.
  • Driving continuous improvement: Review existing processes, identify opportunities to improve workflow and implement practical solutions that enhance efficiency, accuracy and service.

What we're looking for

We're looking for someone who combines strong warehouse management experience with a practical, hands-on approach and a genuine commitment to quality.

You will have;

  • Proven experience in a Stores, Warehouse or Inventory Management role, ideally within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Experience within the aerospace, electronics, cable manufacturing or wider engineering sector.
  • Knowledge of AS9100D and ISO 9001 quality management systems.
  • Experience working within a regulated or quality-critical manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with cable products, cable cutting, preparation or assembly processes.
  • A valid forklift truck licence.
  • Strong understanding of stock control, inventory accuracy, stocktaking and cycle counting.
  • Experience managing goods inwards, picking, packing and dispatch operations.
  • Understanding of Bills of Materials (BOMs), material requirements and stock traceability.
  • Experience using ERP or MRP systems.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving, process improvement and operational efficiency.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
  • A sound understanding of health and safety within a warehouse environment.
