Staff Accountant / Tax Specialist — EA or CPA Required Allison Accounting LLC Remote $35–$40 per hour, depending on experience Approximately 30–32 hours per week, increasing to around 40 during tax season Permanent, Year-Round Position About the Role Allison Accounting LLC is a growing virtual CPA firm serving individuals and small business owners. We are looking for an experienced tax and accounting professional who can work across tax preparation, tax resolution, and accounting cleanup/year-end projects . During tax season, the primary focus will be preparing individual and small-business tax returns. Throughout the rest of the year, the position will also assist with tax resolution matters, extended and amended returns, QuickBooks cleanup projects, year-end accounting work, estimates, projections, and preparing books for tax return preparation. Responsibilities Prepare federal and state individual income tax returns Prepare or assist with S corporation and partnership returns Work with Schedule C, Schedule E, K-1s, brokerage activity, retirement distributions, and other common individual tax matters Perform a thorough self-review before submitting returns for firm review Prepare amended, prior-year, and extended returns Assist with estimates and tax projections Handle or assist with IRS and state tax resolution matters Review notices and account transcripts Communicate with taxing authorities on behalf of clients Assist with installment agreements, penalty abatements, and tax correspondence Perform bookkeeping cleanup and year-end accounting projects Work in both QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop Reconcile and analyze balance-sheet accounts Identify and correct accounting discrepancies Help prepare business books for tax return preparation The accounting portion of this role is focused more on cleanup, review, problem-solving, and year-end work than routine transaction-entry bookkeeping. Required Qualifications Active CPA OR active Enrolled Agent with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting Professional tax preparation experience Significant Form 1040 preparation experience Professional experience using Drake Tax Strong hands-on experience with both QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop Experience with bookkeeping cleanup, reconciliations, and year-end accounting work Strong accounting fundamentals Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment Strongly Preferred TaxDome experience 3+ years of professional tax preparation experience Experience preparing Forms 1120S and 1065 Experience with IRS or state tax resolution matters Experience working with IRS transcripts, notices, POAs, installment agreements, and penalty abatements Experience working in a virtual or paperless CPA firm What We’re Looking For We are looking for someone who combines accuracy, strong tax and accounting knowledge, and reasonable production speed . The right person should be able to recognize when something does not make sense, research discrepancies, self-review their work carefully, and respond well to reviewer feedback. Work Culture & Schedule We want to provide excellent service to our clients without creating the traditional public-accounting environment where extreme tax-season hours are treated as normal. The anticipated schedule is approximately 30–32 hours per week during much of the year and around 40 hours per week during peak tax season . There may occasionally be additional hours during especially busy periods, but this position is not built around routine 50-, 60-, or 70-hour tax-season weeks . Our goal is to maintain enough staffing, systems, administrative support, and review capacity that our tax professionals can focus on technical work without being expected to handle every aspect of the client relationship. Because of the timing of this hire, we are also open to discussing some flexibility or reduced hours during November and December if that is attractive to the employee. Compensation $35–$40 per hour , depending on experience and demonstrated capability. There is opportunity for increased compensation and responsibility over time as the employee demonstrates strong performance and expands their capabilities within the firm.
