# Sign Shop Design and Production Technician **Jim's Sign Shop** · Fallbrook, CA 92028 · `On-site` 🕒 **Статус:** *Опубликовано: 6 дней назад* · *Источник: Indeed* --- ### About the Role SIGN SHOP DESIGN & PRODUCTION TECHNICIAN Jim’s Sign Shop – Fallbrook, CA Starting Pay: $22/hour After Successful 90-Day Introductory Period: $25/hour Jim’s Sign Shop is looking for a versatile, creative, hands-on person to join our shop. This is a hybrid design and production position —you will spend some time working at a computer, but you will also be sanding, cutting, painting, assembling, loading materials, helping with installations, cleaning the shop, and doing whatever it takes to get a project finished. If you only want a desk job, this is probably not the position for you. We are looking for someone with a strong eye for design and a good understanding of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop , who also enjoys working with their hands and is interested in learning the sign-making and installation side of the business. PAY & 90-DAY INTRODUCTORY PERIOD Starting wage: $22/hour The first 90 days will be an introductory period where we evaluate your ability to perform the various aspects of this position, including design, production, communication, reliability, and your ability to learn our equipment and processes. Following a successful 90-day introductory period , the position is eligible to increase to $25/hour , based on demonstrated performance and ability. We are looking for someone who can ultimately become a reliable, versatile member of our team - not someone who is only interested in one aspect of the job. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR Design & Computer Skills - Intermediate to expert-level knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop - Strong understanding of vector artwork, file preparation, image manipulation, and basic production-ready artwork - A genuinely good eye for design, layout, proportion, typography, and color - Able to look at a design and recognize when something simply doesn't look right - Comfortable learning new software, equipment, and technology - Able to prepare artwork for cutting, printing, fabrication, and installation (some specific sign industry programs and tools we're absolutely willing to teach) Hands-On / Production Skills - Willing and able to perform physical shop work, including: - Sanding - Cutting - Painting - Assembly - Material handling - Shop organization and cleanup - Assisting with sign fabrication - Loading and unloading materials - Interested in learning sign installation and production equipment - Construction, carpentry, home improvement, fabrication, or similar experience is a major plus - We are willing to train the right person on our specific equipment and production processes—but you need to already be comfortable working with your hands. CUSTOMER & COMMUNICATION SKILLS This position involves interacting with customers, vendors, and the public. You need to be comfortable communicating with people. You should be able to: - Answer the shop phone professionally and carry on a conversation - Speak comfortably with customers in person - Listen to what a customer is asking and communicate clearly - Ask questions when you don't understand something - Communicate professionally with coworkers and vendors - Represent Jim's Sign Shop appropriately when working at customer locations - Read and understand cursive handwriting You don't need to be a salesperson, but you do need to be comfortable talking to people. OTHER SKILLS WE NEED - Can read a tape measure and perform basic math - Reliable and able to show up on time - Can work independently and figure things out without needing constant supervision - Comfortable working in hot conditions during the summer and cold conditions during the winter - Able to stand, bend, lift, carry, and perform physical work throughout the day - Has a positive attitude and is willing to jump into whatever needs to get done - Comfortable switching between computer work and physical shop work throughout the day THE TYPE OF PERSON WE WANT We're not necessarily looking for someone who already knows everything about making signs. We can teach you how to operate our equipment. We can teach you how we fabricate and install signs. We can teach you the specifics of the sign business. What is much harder to teach is good design judgment, initiative, problem-solving, and the ability to look at something and know whether it looks right. The ideal candidate is someone who can spend the morning working on artwork in Illustrator, then put the computer down and spend the afternoon sanding, cutting, assembling, or helping install a sign. You should be comfortable going from computer to shop floor without missing a beat. EXPERIENCE Preferred, but not necessarily required: - Sign industry experience - Graphic design experience - Adobe Illustrator / Photoshop experience - Construction or home improvement experience - Carpentry or fabrication - Vinyl cutting or application - Sign installation - CNC, laser, or other production equipment We are more interested in what you can actually do than whether you have a particular degree or job title on your résumé. APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS Please do not apply without providing the following: - Résumé or work history - Portfolio of your work — Include a direct link to your portfolio with your application. This is very important. - At least two professional references - A brief description of your experience with Illustrator and Photoshop - A brief description of any construction, fabrication, home improvement, or hands-on work you have done Your portfolio will be an important part of our decision-making process. We're looking for someone with a strong visual sense, so please make sure your portfolio represents your abilities well. ABOUT THE JOB This is a hands-on position in a working sign shop , not a traditional graphic design office environment. Some days may involve significant computer/design work. Other days may involve production, fabrication, installation, or physical shop work. The right person will be someone who likes both sides of the job . If you're creative, technologically capable, mechanically inclined, comfortable talking to people, and don't mind getting dirty, we'd like to hear from you. Jim’s Sign Shop Fallbrook, California Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour Expected hours: 32.0 per week Benefits: - Employee discount - Paid time off - Retirement plan Work Location: In person
