Our development team works closely with the people using these systems, giving developers direct visibility into the problems they are solving and the impact of their work. About the Position We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Developer to join our IT team. This person will develop and maintain the applications that support our business, including our CRM, sales applications, scheduling and routing systems, customer and employee portals, and integrations with third-party platforms. Many of our existing applications are built using ColdFusion/CFML. ColdFusion experience is not required, but you must be willing and able to learn it and work regularly within our existing CFML applications. We are more interested in strong programming fundamentals, sound technical judgment, and the ability to become productive in an established codebase than experience with every technology we use. This is a hands-on senior development role. Working with the IT Director, you will take ownership of complex projects, help guide technical decisions, mentor other developers, and contribute to the ongoing improvement and modernization of our systems. You will balance new development with the reliability and maintainability of the applications our business depends on. What You’ll Be Doing Develop, test, deploy, and maintain internal and customer-facing web applications, including appropriate automated testing and validation before release. Build new features and improve existing applications based on business needs and user feedback. Work within, maintain, and help modernize our existing ColdFusion/CFML applications. Design and maintain relational database structures and write, troubleshoot, and optimize SQL queries. Build and maintain APIs and integrations with third-party platforms and business systems. Troubleshoot application, database, integration, and performance issues, identifying underlying causes and implementing lasting fixes. Help evaluate application architecture and recommend practical technical solutions. Identify and address opportunities to improve application security, performance, reliability, and maintainability. Participate in code reviews and help improve development standards, testing practices, deployment procedures, and rollback planning. Document important application logic, integrations, database structures, and support procedures so other team members can maintain and troubleshoot the systems. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other developers. Work with different departments to understand their processes and translate business needs into clear technical requirements. Help define project scope, estimate development effort, and communicate progress, dependencies, and technical risks throughout each project. Assist with escalated production issues and coordinate urgent fixes and planned releases with the IT Director. What We’re Looking For 5+ years of professional software development experience , including demonstrated experience independently delivering and maintaining complex, database-driven web applications. Strong knowledge of at least one server-side programming language or framework. Strong SQL and relational database skills. Experience with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. Experience building and working with REST APIs and third-party integrations. Experience with version control systems such as Git or SVN. Experience testing and safely releasing changes to production applications. Working knowledge of secure development practices, including authentication, access controls, input validation, and appropriate handling of sensitive information. Strong debugging and problem-solving skills, including the ability to investigate issues across applications, databases, and integrations. Ability to understand and work within an established codebase before recommending significant changes. Ability to work independently, take ownership of projects, and communicate when priorities, requirements, or timelines need clarification. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical teams. Willingness and ability to learn ColdFusion/CFML and use it regularly as part of the position. Nice to Have Experience with any of the following is a plus, but not required: ColdFusion/CFML or Lucee MySQL AWS and Docker Bootstrap and jQuery Java or Python WordPress Twilio or similar messaging platforms Google Maps Platform or other mapping and routing APIs QuickBooks or other business system integrations CRM, scheduling, routing, manufacturing, or field-service applications Incremental modernization of established applications What Success Looks Like You become familiar with our applications and business processes, independently deliver well-tested improvements, and communicate clearly about progress and challenges. You help reduce recurring issues, share knowledge with the team, and make our systems easier to support and maintain. You approach modernization thoughtfully—understanding what already works, identifying what needs improvement, and making changes without unnecessarily disrupting the business. Compensation and Benefits The base salary range for this position is $130,000–$140,000 annually , depending on relevant experience and qualifications.
