Senior Mechanical Engineer
Job Description: Senior Mechanical Engineer (MEP)
We are seeking a highly accomplished Senior Mechanical Engineer with 15+ years of extensive experience in the MEP sector, specifically within Tier-1 Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contracting environments. In this multi-project leadership role, you will head the mechanical engineering division across several concurrent projects, spearheading end-to-end delivery from pre-bid engineering and vendor management through to site execution, testing, and final handover. The selected candidate will report directly to the MEP Director and must possess deep expertise in complex HVAC, district cooling, plumbing, drainage, and fire-life safety systems, alongside strong multi-project commercial acumen and team leadership capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- 1. Multi-Project Engineering & Technical Leadership
- Portfolio Supervision: Oversee and manage mechanical engineering deliverables simultaneously across multiple concurrent fast-track projects, ensuring balanced resource allocation and timeline adherence.
- Design Optimization: Review, optimize, and approve complex mechanical deliverables—including cooling load calculations, duct layouts, and piping networks—ensuring maximum cost-efficiency across all active sites.
- Drawing Management: Supervise engineering teams in the development of clash-free 3D BIM models, comprehensive shop drawings, builder’s works details, and technical material submittals.
- Standards Compliance: Guarantee that all project designs strictly adhere to international codes (ASHRAE, NFPA, ASME, SMACNA), project specifications, and local statutory authority mandates.
- 2. Procurement & Vendor Management
- Technical Value Engineering: Author and standardize detailed technical specifications, datasheets, and material request packages for procurement teams across the project portfolio.
- Commercial Evaluation: Lead technical bid evaluations (TBE) for major equipment procurement, including chillers, pumps, AHUs, and fire pumps.
- Vendor Alignment: Coordinate closely with manufacturers, specialized subcontractors, and suppliers to manage technical clarifications and factory acceptance testing (FAT).
- 3. Construction Supervision & Interface Management
- Site Execution: Direct multi-site engineering teams on proper installation methodologies, ensuring all works conform to approved shop drawings and quality standards.
- Clash Resolution: Actively manage high-level interface coordination across architectural, structural, and electrical trades to resolve complex site clashes before they impact portfolio schedules.
- Quality & Safety Assurance: Conduct multi-site inspections, issue and close Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), and uphold rigid health, safety, and environmental (HSE) protocols.
- 4. Testing, Commissioning & Handover
- System Commissioning: Draft, review, and execute detailed Method Statements and Testing & Commissioning (T&C) procedures for diverse projects.
- Client Handover: Lead testing campaigns alongside Third-Party Inspectors (TPI), consultants, and clients to secure Civil Defense and municipal handovers.
- As-Built Documentation: Manage compliance and compilation of comprehensive operations and maintenance manuals (O&M), as-built drawings, and asset registries.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university. (Master's degree or PMP certification is a distinct advantage).
- Experience: Strictly 15+ years of demonstrable experience in building construction or infrastructure projects, with at least 8-10 years spent inside a reputable MEP EPC contracting firm handling multiple projects simultaneously.
- Technical Mastery: In-depth engineering knowledge of Chilled Water Systems, Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF), high-pressure smoke management, firefighting systems, and central plumbing utilities.
- Software Proficiency: Mastery of AutoCAD, Carrier HAP, and Bluebeam; highly proficient in navigating Revit MEP and ERP tools (such as SAP or Oracle).
- Soft Skills: Exceptional portfolio management capability, astute problem-solving skills under tight deadlines, and natural communication skills for navigating high-stakes client meetings.
