The role ensures that software, infrastructure, and technology changes are planned, coordinated, assessed, tested, and deployed into production in a controlled, predictable, and repeatable manner. The position works closely with DevOps, Engineering, Application Development, Infrastructure, Service Desk, Project Management, and Business teams to manage release dependencies, identify and mitigate risks, resolve scheduling conflicts, and ensure releases meet quality, security, compliance, and business requirements. The role also drives continuous improvement of the release lifecycle through data-driven analysis, automation, effective governance, and DevOps-aligned practices. Key ResponsibilitiesRelease & Deployment Management Own and manage the end-to-end Release and Deployment Management lifecycle. Develop and maintain enterprise release calendars, schedules, roadmaps, and deployment plans. Coordinate multiple releases across applications, infrastructure, platforms, and technology services. Ensure release activities are properly planned, documented, tested, approved, and executed. Manage dependencies between applications, infrastructure, vendors, projects, and technical teams. Monitor release readiness and identify potential scheduling conflicts, resource constraints, and delivery bottlenecks. Ensure releases follow established quality, security, and governance standards. Coordinate production deployment activities and ensure appropriate post-release validation is completed. Release Governance & Change Management Establish, maintain, and enforce Release Management policies, standards, procedures, and controls. Facilitate Change Advisory Board (CAB) and Emergency Change Advisory Board (eCAB) meetings where required. Review release and change requests to assess readiness, risk, dependencies, and business impact. Ensure appropriate approvals are obtained before production deployment. Work closely with Change Management teams to ensure releases align with approved change processes. Maintain accurate release documentation, approvals, audit trails, and deployment records. Support compliance with ITIL, ISO 20000, ISO 27001, and applicable organizational standards. Risk & Impact Management Conduct risk assessments for major and complex releases. Identify technical, operational, security, and business risks that could affect release success. Evaluate dependencies across applications, infrastructure, platforms, and microservices. Develop contingency, rollback, and recovery plans for high-risk releases. Lead release Go/No-Go assessments and facilitate resolution of conflicting technical and business priorities. Escalate significant release risks and provide clear recommendations to IT leadership and business stakeholders. DevOps & Release Pipeline Management Partner with DevOps and Engineering teams to support efficient and reliable CI/CD processes. Monitor the health and effectiveness of release pipelines and identify delivery bottlenecks. Promote standardized and repeatable deployment practices across development and technical teams. Support the adoption of automated testing, deployment controls, standard change models, and other DevOps-aligned practices. Evaluate release tooling and recommend improvements that increase deployment efficiency, quality, and visibility. Ensure appropriate quality and security gates are incorporated into the release lifecycle. Release Performance & Continuous Improvement Establish and monitor Release Management KPIs and performance metrics, including Change Success Rate, deployment frequency, lead time, failed deployments, rollback rates, and release-related incidents. Analyze historical release and production incident data to identify trends, recurring issues, and process bottlenecks. Develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives to improve release predictability and efficiency. Identify opportunities to reduce release-related incidents and improve quality through earlier testing and validation. Prepare dashboards and management reports providing clear visibility into release performance, risks, upcoming deployments, and pipeline capacity. Stakeholder & Conflict Management Serve as the central point of coordination for cross-functional release activities. Collaborate with Product Owners, Project Managers, Engineering, Infrastructure, DevOps, Service Desk, Security, and Business teams. Manage competing release priorities and negotiate realistic deployment schedules. Facilitate discussions and resolve conflicts between business requirements, technical dependencies, resource constraints, and operational risks. Translate complex technical release risks into clear business impact and recommendations for senior management. Provide timely communication to stakeholders throughout planning, deployment, and post-release activities. Post-Release & Service Transition Coordinate post-release validation and ensure successful transition into production support. Facilitate post-release reviews and post-mortems for failed, high-risk, or major releases. Ensure lessons learned are documented and converted into actionable improvement initiatives. Track release-related incidents and problems and coordinate with Problem Management where recurring issues are identified. Ensure knowledge articles, operational procedures, support documentation, and configuration information are updated following major releases. Leadership & Team Development Provide guidance and mentorship to project managers, release coordinators, technical teams, and other stakeholders on Release and Deployment Management practices. Promote a culture of quality, accountability, risk awareness, and continuous improvement across IT. Champion "Quality at Source" principles by encouraging early identification and resolution of release risks. Drive consistent adoption of Release Management processes across development and technology teams. Qualifications & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. Minimum 5 years of experience in Release Management, Deployment Management, IT Service Management, or a closely related function , preferably in an enterprise IT environment. Strong experience managing complex application, infrastructure, or technology releases. Solid understanding of ITIL-based Service Transition and Release & Deployment Management processes. Experience working with DevOps teams and CI/CD environments. Proven experience coordinating cross-functional technical teams and managing complex release dependencies. Experience facilitating CAB/eCAB meetings and managing change and release governance. Strong understanding of production deployment, risk assessment, rollback, and contingency planning. Experience with release metrics, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives. Preferred Certifications ITIL v3 or ITIL 4 certification. ITIL Managing Professional or Strategic Leader certification is an advantage. ISO 20000 and/or ISO 27001 knowledge or implementation experience is a plus. PRINCE2, PMP, Agile, Scrum, or other relevant project and delivery certifications are advantageous. Technical Skills Strong knowledge of IT Service Management and Service Transition processes. Hands-on familiarity with JIRA and JIRA Service Management . Experience with Bitbucket, Jenkins, AWS , or similar DevOps and cloud platforms. Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment practices. Familiarity with change automation, standard change models, and release pipeline controls. Ability to interpret release metrics and operational data to identify trends and bottlenecks. Understanding of application, infrastructure, network, cloud, and microservices dependencies is an advantage. Key Competencies Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
