Position: Senior Housekeeping Supervisor Department: Housekeeping Location: Mercure Hotel Suites and Apartments, Barsha Heights, Dubai Reports To: Housekeeping Manager/RD Manager Supervises: Housekeeping Supervisors, Room Attendants, Public Area Attendants, Housemen, and other assigned Housekeeping colleagues/Heartists JOB PURPOSE The Senior Housekeeping Supervisor is responsible for supervising and coordinating daily housekeeping operations to ensure that guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house areas, and other assigned areas are maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness, hygiene, presentation, and guest satisfaction. The position supports the Executive Housekeeper and Assistant Executive Housekeeper in managing the Housekeeping team, maintaining operational efficiency, ensuring compliance with hotel standards and procedures, and delivering a consistently high-quality guest experience. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES1. Housekeeping Operations Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of the Housekeeping team to ensure efficient and smooth operations. Allocate daily assignments and responsibilities to Housekeeping Supervisors, Room Attendants, Public Area Attendants, and Housemen. Conduct daily briefings and communicate operational updates, special requests, VIP arrivals, group movements, and other relevant information. Ensure guest rooms, corridors, public areas, service areas, and back-of-house areas are cleaned and maintained according to hotel standards. Conduct regular inspections of guest rooms and public areas to ensure cleanliness, hygiene, presentation, and maintenance standards are consistently achieved. Ensure VIP rooms, long-stay rooms, special occasions, and guest requests are prepared according to the required standards. Monitor room status and coordinate closely with Front Office to ensure accurate and timely room availability updates. Follow up on room discrepancies and ensure they are resolved promptly. Ensure proper handover between shifts, including pending tasks, guest requests, maintenance issues, and other operational matters. 2. Guest Service Maintain a strong guest-focused approach and ensure guest needs are anticipated and addressed promptly. Respond professionally to guest requests, concerns, and complaints related to housekeeping services. Follow up on guest complaints and ensure appropriate service recovery in coordination with the Housekeeping management team. Ensure special requests and amenities are arranged according to guest requirements. Maintain professional communication and a courteous attitude when interacting with guests. 3. Team Supervision & Training Supervise, coach, motivate, and support Housekeeping colleagues to achieve departmental objectives. Monitor colleagues' productivity, performance, grooming, attendance, and adherence to departmental standards. Provide on-the-job training and coaching to new and existing colleagues. Ensure colleagues understand and follow departmental SOPs, cleaning procedures, and hotel service standards. Identify training needs and provide appropriate feedback to the Housekeeping management team. Encourage teamwork, professional conduct, and positive working relationships within the department. Support performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback where required. 4. Quality Control Conduct regular quality inspections using the hotel's approved checklists and standards. Ensure guestrooms are properly cleaned, arranged, replenished, and maintained before being released for sale. Check cleanliness and presentation of bathrooms, bedrooms, corridors, public areas, and housekeeping service areas. Ensure linen, towels, guest amenities, and other supplies are provided according to established standards. Identify areas requiring corrective action and ensure they are rectified promptly. Monitor housekeeping standards continuously and report recurring issues to the Housekeeping management team. 5. Inventory & Cost Control Assist with regular inventories of linen, cleaning supplies, guest amenities, uniforms, and housekeeping equipment. Monitor the consumption and usage of cleaning chemicals, amenities, linen, and other departmental supplies. Ensure proper storage and handling of housekeeping supplies and equipment. Minimize wastage, misuse, breakage, and unnecessary consumption of departmental resources. Ensure adequate stock levels are maintained and report shortages or unusual consumption to the appropriate supervisor. Support departmental cost-control and sustainability initiatives. 6. Maintenance & Engineering Coordination Report maintenance defects and technical issues identified in guestrooms and public areas to the Engineering Department. Follow up on outstanding maintenance requests and ensure completed work is verified. Coordinate with Engineering regarding room maintenance issues that may affect room readiness. Report damaged furniture, fixtures, equipment, and other hotel assets promptly. Ensure housekeeping equipment is used correctly and maintained in good working condition. 7. Lost & Found Ensure all Lost & Found items are handled, recorded, secured, and handed over in accordance with hotel procedures. Ensure Housekeeping colleagues are fully aware of the hotel's Lost & Found procedures. Maintain confidentiality and proper documentation regarding guest belongings. 8. Health, Safety & Hygiene Ensure compliance with hotel health, safety, hygiene, and environmental policies and procedures. Ensure Housekeeping colleagues follow safe working practices when handling cleaning chemicals, equipment, linen, and other materials. Report accidents, incidents, hazards, unsafe conditions, and damaged equipment immediately. Ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required. Maintain high standards of personal grooming, uniform, hygiene, and professional appearance. Support the hotel's sustainability and environmental initiatives by minimizing water, energy, chemical, and material wastage. 9. Administration & Reporting Complete daily inspection reports, discrepancy reports, handover reports, and other required Housekeeping documentation. Ensure all relevant operational information is properly communicated during shift handovers. Assist with preparing departmental reports and maintaining accurate records. Attend daily departmental briefings and other meetings as required. Ensure housekeeping records and checklists are completed accurately and on time. 10. Interdepartmental Coordination Maintain effective communication with Front Office regarding room status, VIP arrivals, early check-ins, late check-outs, room discrepancies, and special requests. Coordinate with Engineering regarding maintenance and repair requirements. Coordinate with Laundry regarding linen availability and quality. Work closely with Security regarding Lost & Found, suspicious activities, incidents, and other security-related matters. Coordinate with other departments to ensure seamless guest service and smooth hotel operations. 11. Additional Responsibilities Assist the Executive Housekeeper and Assistant Executive Housekeeper with special projects, deep-cleaning programs, inspections, and operational initiatives. Support the Housekeeping Department during periods of high occupancy, special events, and VIP arrivals. Ensure all departmental policies, procedures, and hotel standards are consistently followed. Perform any other reasonable duties and responsibilities assigned by the Executive Housekeeper, Assistant Executive Housekeeper, or Hotel Management. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Hospitality Management, Hotel Management, or a related field is preferred. Minimum 3–5 years of Housekeeping experience in a hotel environment. Minimum 1–2 years of supervisory experience in a similar position. Previous experience in a 4- or 5-star hotel is preferred. Strong knowledge of hotel housekeeping operations, cleaning standards, and quality control procedures. Knowledge of housekeeping systems and hotel operating procedures. Good knowledge of health, safety, hygiene, and environmental standards. Previous experience with hotel PMS/housekeeping systems is an advantage. Good command of spoken and written English. PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS The Senior Housekeeping Supervisor is expected to consistently maintain high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, room readiness, guest satisfaction, team productivity, and operational efficiency while supporting the Housekeeping management team in achieving the hotel's overall objectives.
