Scope of Position The Senior Business Development Manager is responsible for developing and executing a strategic plan to increase product specifications, strengthen relationships with key industry partners, and drive sustainable sales growth within assigned markets and territories. This position requires a highly accountable, results-driven leader who takes ownership of the specification process from opportunity identification through specification, project conversion, and sales execution. The successful candidate will build influential relationships with architects, engineers, designers, consultants, contractors, EPCs, distributors, internal sales teams, and Key Account C-Suite stakeholders while using data and KPIs to measure performance, identify opportunities, and continuously improve results. This position reports to the Director of National Accounts – Plumbing Division. This role is a remote position and is based in the Midwest or Northeast Region of the United States. Accountabilities Develop and execute a comprehensive specification sales strategy aligned with company growth objectives and market priorities. Identify key market segments, strategic accounts, emerging opportunities, and high-value projects that will drive long-term specification growth. Create and manage territory and account strategies that establish measurable objectives, priorities, and action plans. Analyze market trends, competitive activity, and customer needs to identify opportunities and adjust strategy as needed. Take ownership of building a sustainable pipeline of specification opportunities and converting specifications into profitable sales. Present strategic plans, market insights, performance results, and growth recommendations to Haws Leadership Team as needed. Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities Drive product specifications with architects, engineers, consultants, EPC firms, designers, and other key decision-makers. Influence project specifications early in the design and planning process while protecting and strengthening specifications through project completion. Track specified projects and work closely with sales teams and channel partners to maximize specification conversion and revenue. Develop strategies to increase specification pull-through, win rates, market penetration, and share of wallet. Identify and resolve barriers that may prevent products from being specified or converted into sales. Establish, monitor, and consistently achieve key performance indicators (KPIs) related to specification activity, pipeline development, project conversion, revenue growth, and strategic account engagement. Use CRM data, activity reporting, and market intelligence to evaluate performance and make data-driven decisions. Maintain accountability for key metrics, including specification volume, qualified opportunities, conversion rates, sales impact, strategic account activity, and pipeline growth. Regularly communicate performance against goals to sales leadership and C-Suite stakeholders, developing corrective action plans when results are below expectations. Continuously evaluate processes and implement improvements that increase productivity, efficiency, and return on investment. Build and maintain strong relationships with key partners, including architects, engineers, consultants, EPC firms, contractors, distributors, manufacturers' representatives, internal stakeholders, and C-Suite decision-makers. Serve as a trusted technical and business resource for key decision-makers throughout the specification process. Develop strategic account plans for high-value firms and customers to strengthen long-term relationships and increase specification opportunities. Collaborate closely with Regional Sales Managers, Territory Managers, Product Management, Marketing, Customer Service, and other internal teams to ensure a coordinated market strategy. Create alignment between specification activity and field sales execution to ensure opportunities are effectively managed through project completion. Demonstrate a strong sense of ownership for assigned markets, strategic accounts, opportunities, and business results. Proactively identify challenges and opportunities and take decisive action without waiting for direction. Develop solutions to improve customer engagement, specification success, sales conversion, and overall market performance. Share market intelligence, best practices, competitive information, and customer feedback with leadership and cross-functional teams. Maintain a disciplined approach to planning, follow-up, forecasting, and opportunity management. All responsibilities shall be tied directly to Watts Values (Integrity, Accountability, Continuous Improvement, Transparency) Travel Requirements: 50-60% Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Sales, Marketing, Business, or related field or experience Minimum of 7 years of related work experience is required. Proven experience in specification sales, outside sales, business development, architectural/engineering sales, or a related industry. Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategic sales and market development plans. Strong understanding of the specification process and experience working with architects, engineers, designers, EPC firms, consultants, C-Suite stakeholders and other industry influencers. Experience managing sales pipelines, CRM systems, KPIs, and performance metrics. Strong relationship-building, communication, presentation, negotiation, and influencing skills. Highly organized and self-directed with a strong sense of ownership and accountability. Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and translate information into actionable strategies. Experience in dealing with longer sales cycles (6-36 months) Solution based selling experience with the understanding on how to align and become a strategic solutions partner Willingness to travel within the continental United States as required. Must successfully establish employment eligibility and satisfactorily complete a background check and required pre-employment drug test as a condition of employment. Preferred Qualifications 7+ years plumbing & commercial work experience. 7+ years of experience calling on plumbing engineers, design build firms, EPC firms, mechanical contractors, facility managers, end users, strategic accounts, including C-Suite stakeholders. Active in the ASPE, PHCC, MCA and any other applicable industry organizations. Ability to handle job site visits Experience in promoting company branding on approved social media platforms. Working Conditions While performing the job duties, you will be working remotely in an office environment. You may be required to occasionally travel to and work in the office at the Sparks, NV location for meetings, trainings, or as otherwise required by Company management. Physical Requirements: Specific physical abilities required for this position include, but are not limited to: Ability to remain seated at a desk or workstation for extended periods. Ability to perform repetitive tasks like typing on a keyboard or using a mouse for extended periods. Ability to read documents, use a computer, and perform data entry tasks. Ability to communicate clearly with management and coworkers, particularly in meetings or phone calls. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds. Ability to stand for long periods of time. Ability to wear personal protective equipment, which may include, but is not limited to, safety shoes, hearing protection, and safety glasses.
