Senior Bookkeeper
# Senior Bookkeeper **650NED & Super Owners Society** · Newport Pagnell MK16 9PY · `On-site` 🕒 **Статус:** *Опубликовано: 2 дня назад* · *Источник: Indeed* --- ### About the Role About 650NED 650NED is a high-touch outsourced finance function for growing, owner-managed businesses. We don't operate like a traditional accountancy practice where one person looks after hundreds of clients and has limited contact with each one. We deliberately work with a relatively small number of clients, but we work with them closely. We become a genuine extension of their businesses and, in many cases, effectively operate as their internal finance team. Our work ranges from bookkeeping and management accounts through to cashflow forecasting, financial analysis and fractional FD support. We're growing quickly and are now looking for an experienced, exceptionally good bookkeeper to join the team on a part-time basis. And when we say bookkeeper, we don't mean someone who simply processes whatever appears in Xero. We want someone who cares whether the numbers are actually right. The role You'll take ownership of the day-to-day bookkeeping across a small portfolio of clients and work closely with our FD and wider finance team. Our clients have different businesses, systems and ways of working, so you'll need to be comfortable switching between them and properly understanding what you're looking at. You'll be responsible for keeping the underlying accounting records accurate, reconciled and genuinely ready for month-end. We're specifically looking for someone experienced who can work independently. We don't expect you to know absolutely everything, and we'd always rather you ask a question than guess, but once you're familiar with a client, we want to be able to trust that the bookkeeping has been done properly. What you'll be doing Depending on the client, your work will include: Day-to-day bookkeeping in Xero Bank and credit-card reconciliations Purchase and sales ledger Processing and correctly coding transactions Supplier statement reconciliations Accounts payable and receivable Expenses Investigating unreconciled or incorrectly posted transactions Identifying missing, duplicated or unusual transactions Cleaning up historic bookkeeping issues Supporting month-end close Maintaining clear supporting records and audit trails Liaising directly with clients where information is missing or something doesn't look right Keeping track of outstanding queries and following them through to resolution Managing recurring deadlines across multiple clients Helping improve bookkeeping processes and controls There may also be other finance tasks depending on the needs of individual clients. Reconciliations matter. A lot. One of the biggest things we're looking for is attention to detail. If a bank account supposedly reconciles but the balance doesn't agree to the actual bank statement, we don't want someone who ticks the box and moves on. If a supplier account looks wrong, we want you to notice. If a balance has been brought forward for six months and nobody seems to know what it is, we want you to question it. If two systems are supposed to agree and they don't, we want you to want to know why. You don't need to spend three hours finding a 3p difference: we're commercially sensible, but you do need to take pride in producing bookkeeping that someone else can rely on. About you You'll already have solid, hands-on bookkeeping experience. You may be AAT qualified, studying towards a qualification or qualified by experience. We're much more interested in whether you can actually do the job than the letters after your name. If you have experience with Xero and multi-company environments this is advantageous but not essential. The person we're looking for You're accurate. You don't assume something is right just because Xero says it is. You notice when things don't make sense and care enough to investigate them. You're exceptionally organised. You'll be working across multiple clients, each with different deadlines, systems, priorities and outstanding queries. You keep on top of what needs doing, plan your workload properly and make sure recurring tasks don't get missed. We don't want to have to chase you to ask whether a client has sent the missing information or whether something you raised last week has been resolved. If you're waiting for something, you follow it up. If something can't be completed, you flag it. If you say something will be done, it gets done. You can work at a good pace without letting standards slip, prioritise properly and understand when something genuinely needs investigating versus when something is immaterial. You take ownership. Once you know what needs doing, you get on with it rather than needing someone to continually manage your task list. You're naturally investigative. If something doesn't look right, your instinct is to work out why. You communicate. If you're missing something, you're comfortable chasing it. If you don't understand something, you ask. If you've found a problem, you flag it. You're good with people. You'll have direct contact with clients, so you need to be friendly, patient and able to explain things without making people feel stupid. We're extremely serious about the quality of our work. We're significantly less serious about ourselves. A sense of humour definitely helps. What this role isn't This isn't a data-entry role. We don't want someone whose bookkeeping process is simply to process transactions until Xero says everything is reconciled. Equally, this isn't currently a Management Accountant or Finance Manager role. You'll work closely with senior finance support, and your job is to make sure the underlying bookkeeping is accurate, complete and properly prepared so that month-end and management reporting can happen efficiently. There is scope for the role to develop as the business grows, but we're primarily looking for someone who is really bloody good at bookkeeping and enjoys doing it. Working arrangements This is initially a part-time role of approximately 15–20 hours per week, although we're happy to discuss the exact working pattern with the right person. There is potential for the hours to increase as 650NED continues to grow. Why join us? You'll work across a small number of genuinely interesting businesses rather than processing enormous volumes of anonymous clients. You'll get to understand how those businesses actually work and become part of the finance team supporting them. You'll have autonomy over your work, but senior support is there when you need it. You'll also be joining 650NED at an exciting stage of growth, with the opportunity for your role to develop as the team and client base grow. Most importantly, we're building a finance team where doing things properly matters. If you've ever spotted something strange in Xero that technically wasn't your problem but couldn't leave it alone until you'd worked out what had happened, we'd probably like you.
