Senior Accounting Manager

Position Summary We seek an experienced Senior Accounting Manager to join our team and lead complex accounting engagements for government entities, nonprofits, and closely held businesses. This role requires expertise in financial forecasting, advanced accounting standards, tax strategy, and the ability to communicate sophisticated financial concepts to executive leadership and governing boards. The ideal candidate will demonstrate mastery across accounting and advisory services. Key Responsibilities ● Lead and manage complex accounting engagements for government entities, nonprofits, and closely held businesses, ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards (GASB, AICPA, FASB, IRC). ● Develop and present financial forecasts, variance analyses, and scenario models to client management and boards of directors. ● Analyze and advise on complex accounting issues, including revenue recognition, lease accounting, grant compliance, and financial statement presentation. ● Provide tax planning and strategy consultation, coordinating with tax specialists and clients to optimize tax positions across entities. ● Prepare comprehensive financial statements, ● Conduct financial analysis across a portfolio of various industries ● Present findings and recommendations to executive management, boards, audit committees, and funders with clarity and professionalism. ● Maintain current knowledge of changes in accounting standards, tax law, and regulatory requirements relevant to our client base. ● Manage client relationships, coordinate with engagement teams, and ensure adherence to firm quality standards. Required Qualifications ● Bachelor degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA license or CPA eligibility required. ● Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a senior or management role. ● Demonstrated expertise in complex accounting concepts and ability to explain them clearly to non-accounting audiences. ● Proven experience developing financial forecasts, budgets, and variance analyses. ● Experience working with government entities, nonprofits, or both; understanding of sector-specific accounting standards and regulations required. ● Strong tax accounting knowledge and ability to advise on tax planning strategies and compliance matters. ● Excellent communication and presentation skills; experience presenting to boards, management, and external stakeholders. ● Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks Online, NetSuite, or similar) and Microsoft Office suite. ● Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with attention to detail. Preferred Qualifications ● Master degree (MAcc, MBA, or related field). ● Experience with audit and assurance engagements, including internal control evaluation. ● Familiarity with grant accounting, cost allocation, and indirect cost rate negotiations. ● Experience with HUD, federal single audit requirements, or other government compliance frameworks. ● Knowledge of nonprofit governance, restricted/unrestricted fund accounting, and donor reporting. ● Prior experience with cost segregation studies or other advanced tax strategies. ● Involvement in business valuations, financial feasibility studies, or bond issuance support. Core Competencies ● Technical Accounting: Complex transactions, GASB/FASB standards, revenue recognition, lease accounting, consolidation. ● Financial Forecasting & Analysis: Budget development, variance analysis, scenario modeling, trend analysis. ● Tax Strategy: Entity structure optimization, estimated tax planning, tax compliance, and tax-efficient transaction structuring. ● Client Communication: Ability to translate technical concepts for diverse audiences, executive presence, board-level communication. ● Leadership: Team management, staff development, engagement leadership, quality control oversight. ● Sector Expertise: Government entities, nonprofits, or both; understanding of mission-driven organizations and regulatory environment. ● Attention to Detail: Precision in complex workpapers, documentation, and financial presentations.
