Senior Accounting Associate

Job Summary Native Sun Holdings, LLC is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to support financial operations within a highly regulated cannabis environment. This position will support accounting functions, financial reporting, compliance, budgeting, and internal controls while ensuring accuracy and integrity across all financial processes. The ideal candidate will have strong technical accounting expertise, experience managing complex financial operations, and a thorough understanding of cannabis industry regulations and compliance requirements. This role requires a hands-on financial leader who can analyze data, improve processes, support business growth, and maintain strict financial controls in a fast-paced, highly regulated industry. Responsibilities Support all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, reconciliations, and month-end/year-end close processes. Prepare and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP and applicable accounting standards. Manage financial reporting packages, including income statements, balance sheets, cash flow reports, and operational performance analysis. Support the development of budgets, forecasts, and financial models to support business planning. Build relationships and act as a liaison with external audit, consulting, and banking partners. Support inventory accounting processes, including valuation, reconciliation, and cost tracking. Analyze production costs, inventory adjustments, waste, shrink, and variances. Collaborate with operational teams to improve cost controls and financial efficiency. Maintain accounting practices that support compliance with cannabis regulations and state/local reporting requirements. Develop and maintain strong internal controls related to cash handling, inventory, purchasing, and financial transactions. Partner with operations, cultivation, manufacturing, distribution, and retail teams to ensure accurate financial tracking. Support compliance with cannabis inventory regulations, including reconciliation of production, inventory movement, and sales activity. Maintain documentation and processes necessary for audits, regulatory reviews, and tax reporting. Assist with cannabis-specific tax compliance, including considerations related to IRC Section 280E. Mentor and develop accounting team members. Provide guidance on accounting principles, reconciliations, and financial reporting. Provide financial insights and recommendations to executive leadership to support strategic decision-making. Create a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred. 3+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience in a Senior Accounting, Accounting Manager, or Assistant Controller role. Experience in the cannabis industry, manufacturing, agriculture, retail, or other highly regulated industries preferred. Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, cost accounting, and internal controls. Experience managing general ledger accounting, reconciliations, journal entries, financial statements, and audits. Knowledge of cannabis compliance requirements and inventory tracking systems preferred. Experience with cannabis accounting considerations, including 280E tax implications, preferred. Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, ERP systems, or similar financial platforms. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, evolving regulatory environment. Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with executives, operations teams, and external partners.
