This position will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing monthly and year-end close processes, monitoring cash flow, overseeing Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, managing payroll, and providing timely financial information and analysis to company ownership and management. The ideal candidate is someone who can own the accounting function, not simply enter transactions. This person should be comfortable reviewing financial information, identifying discrepancies, asking questions when something doesn't make sense, and independently resolving issues. Required Qualifications Two-year degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field or equivalent accounting experience. Strong working knowledge and experience with QuickBooks. 3+ years of progressive accounting experience, with experience independently managing month-end close and financial reporting preferred. Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and financial statements. Experience with Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, bank reconciliations, and payroll. Excellent attention to detail and ability to identify and resolve discrepancies. Ability to maintain confidentiality with financial and employee information. Manufacturing accounting experience is a plus, but not required. Key Responsibilities General Accounting & Financial Reporting Own the monthly accounting close process and ensure financial records are accurate and complete. Prepare mid-month projected income statements and financial forecasts. Prepare month-end Income Statement and Balance Sheet. Reconcile Balance Sheet accounts, bank accounts, and inventory monthly and investigate discrepancies. Prepare and post recurring and adjusting journal entries. Maintain an accurate and organized general ledger. Review financial statements for errors, unusual activity, and inconsistencies. Manufacturing Accounting & Inventory Export manufacturing costs from the manufacturing/ERP system into QuickBooks as part of the month-end close. Reconcile manufacturing costs, inventory, and related accounts. Monitor inventory balances and investigate discrepancies. Work with operations as needed to understand and resolve costing or inventory issues. Cash Flow & Banking Monitor bank balances and anticipated cash requirements. Prepare cash flow information and provide management with advance notice of significant cash requirements. Payroll & Employee Compensation Manage the payroll process to ensure employees are paid accurately and timely. Review payroll for accuracy prior to processing. Reconcile payroll-related accounts. Ensure payroll tax filings and payments are completed accurately and on time. Coordinate with payroll providers and outside advisors as necessary. Maintain accurate records related to employee benefits and deductions. Fixed Assets, Loans & Depreciation Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules. Record capital expenditures, disposals, and depreciation appropriately. Maintain loan schedules and amortization records. Reconcile loan balances and interest expense to supporting documentation. Year-End & Tax Support Complete year-end reconciliations and prepare organized working papers for the company's outside CPA/accounting firm. Assist outside accountants with annual financial statements, tax returns, and other requested information. Coordinate year-end close activities and provide supporting schedules and documentation. Maintain records necessary for federal, state, and local tax compliance. Coordinate with outside accountants regarding tax filings and other compliance matters. Manage the company's 401(k) year-end reconciliation and assist with Form 5500 filing and related requirements. Process Improvement & Internal Controls Develop and maintain accounting procedures and internal controls appropriate for a small business. Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, and efficiency. Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning. Maintain organized and accurate accounting files and supporting documentation. Perform other accounting and financial duties as assigned by management. What We're Looking For The right candidate will be a hands-on, independent accounting professional who is comfortable working in a small-business environment. We are looking for someone who: Takes ownership of the accounting function. Doesn't just enter numbers—they understand what the numbers mean. Is comfortable investigating discrepancies and finding the root cause of problems. Can communicate financial information clearly to company ownership and management. Takes pride in accuracy and follows through on issues until they are resolved. Is comfortable working independently without needing extensive direction.
