Role Overview As part of the Finance & Accounting team, you will report to the Head of Support Functions Japan / Head of Accounting . You will play a key role in overseeing accounting operations, ensuring robust financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, and providing analytical insights to support business decision-making. Key Responsibilities Financial Accounting & Closing Oversee full sets of accounts (AR, AP, GL, journals, and bank reconciliations) Lead month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness Prepare financial statements and monthly balance sheet reconciliations Review and validate accounting entries and reconciliations Group Reporting & Consolidation Manage consolidation reporting to HQ in accordance with IFRS and Group requirements Oversee intercompany transactions, reconciliations, and management fee allocations Ensure consistency and integrity in reporting across entities Tax & Compliance Oversee GST filings and compliance with local tax regulations Support corporate tax computation and filings Ensure compliance with JGAAP (where applicable), and IFRS Audit & Internal Controls Lead coordination of external audits across entities within scope Act as key point of contact for auditors, tax agents, and advisors Ensure strong internal control environment and proactively address control gaps Maintain and enhance accounting policies, procedures, and documentation Business Partnering & Financial Analysis Monitor and forecast cash flow (short- and medium-term) Analyse financial performance, including revenue, cost, working capital, and cash flow Provide insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making Develop financial models and scenario analyses Operations & Process Improvement Ensure timely vendor onboarding and invoice processing Drive process improvements, automation, and system enhancements (e.g., SAP) Organize and structure financial data for reporting and analytics Support internal stakeholders and deliver ad hoc analysis as required Candidate Profile Qualifications & Experience Professionally qualified accountant (ACCA, CA, CPA or equivalent) or possess a relevant degree in finance or accounting Minimum 5–8 years of relevant experience in accounting and financial reporting Strong experience in trading, energy, or commodity-related environments is preferred Technical Expertise Strong knowledge of IFRS and JGAAP , as well as taxation, hedging, transfer pricing, and mark-to-market (MTM) accounting Solid understanding of consolidation and intercompany accounting Experience with financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting Proficiency in SAP or equivalent ERP systems Strong Excel and data analysis capabilities Language Skills Fluent Japanese, with the ability to handle communications and discussions with external auditors Fluent English, with the ability to work effectively with the Singapore-based Finance Operations team Behavioural skills Strong analytical and critical thinking capabilities with a solution-oriented mindset High level of accuracy and attention to detail Proactive, well-organized, and able to manage multiple priorities under tight timelines Strong stakeholder management and interpersonal skills across functions and regions Effective communicator, comfortable interacting with senior management Demonstrates sound judgment, professionalism, and integrity Continuous improvement mindset with strong interest in digital transformation Business Unit: Supply & Energy Management Division: BP APAC Legal Entity: ENGIE Energy Marketing Japan Co.
