Check us out at www.systemtechnologyinc.com We have an immediate need for an experienced Sales Application Engineer to join our sales team and play a key role in turning customer needs into well-designed, accurately quoted solutions. This is a highly collaborative, cross-functional position that sits at the intersection of Sales, Engineering, and Project Management. The right person will be able to understand what a customer is trying to accomplish, develop a practical high-level system concept, create a CAD layout for quoting, determine the equipment and components required, develop an accurate quotation, and successfully hand the proejct off to engineering and operations We need an experienced, hungry, humble, and smart professional who enjoys solving problems, creating customer solutions, and taking ownership . We’re looking for someone who is experienced enough to know what works, curious enough to ask why, humble enough to listen and collaborate, and hungry enough to make things better. If you thrive in a smaller, hands-on manufacturing environment (or tired of getting lost in a large one!), enjoy having a direct impact on projects, and are excited about joining a company that is positioned to scale, we want to meet you! After the first 90 days in the office, you can transition to a hybrid work arrangement with two set days in the office and three days remote work from home. WHAT YOU’LL DO Applications & Proposal System Design · Review customer requirements, specifications, drawings, application needs, production requirements, and project objectives in collaboration with the Sales team to understand the customer's needs and goals. · Develop high-level conveyor and automation system concepts for the quoting process using established templates, and create CAD layouts that clearly communicate the proposed system configuration and equipment arrangement. · Determine appropriate conveyor types, equipment, components, and system configurations while considering product flow, accumulation, transfers, elevations, pallet/case handling, speeds, manufacturability, functionality, cost, and overall project objectives. · Identify missing information, potential design challenges, scope gaps, and project risks before a quotation is issued, and collaborate with Engineering when a project requires more detailed technical development. Estimating & Quoting · Quoting and estimating experience is a must-have for this position. Prepare accurate and detailed quotations for conveyor and automated packaging systems, including developing equipment lists, quantities, labor requirements, purchased components, and other costs necessary to build a complete project estimate. Obtain and evaluate supplier pricing as needed, and review project scope, assumptions, exclusions, options, and specifications to ensure the quotation accurately reflects the proposed solution. Work with Sales to establish appropriate pricing and communicate technical assumptions, and revise quotations and layouts as customer requirements change. Manage multiple quotes and projects simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and responsiveness, and recognize potential scope and profitability issues before a project is committed. Sales & Customer Support Partner closely with Sales throughout the quoting and proposal process to communicate system concepts, equipment selections, layouts, and technical considerations, and participate in customer calls and meetings as the technical resource when appropriate. Translate customer needs into practical equipment and system solutions, provide answers to technical questions, and help customers understand the proposed solution. Identify additional equipment, automation, or system opportunities that may benefit the customer. Project Coordination & Handoff Serve as a technical bridge between Sales, Engineering, Project Management, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Controls, and Operations, clearly communicating customer requirements, project scope, assumptions, equipment selections, and quotation details throughout the project handoff. Support the transition from quoted concept to detailed engineering and project execution, helping identify potential issues and scope gaps before they become project problems. Participate in project discussions and troubleshoot solutions as needed to ensure the final system remains aligned with the quoted scope and customer requirements. Coordinate customer-requested changes and revisions, identifying changes to quoted scope, coordinating technical and cost impacts, supporting the change-order process, and ensuring approved changes are clearly documented and communicated to the customer and appropriate STI teams. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR We’re looking for an experienced, creative, and solution-oriented professional with an entrepreneurial spirit who enjoys understanding customer challenges and turning them into practical, well-designed solutions. You should take ownership of the process—from understanding the customer’s needs and developing the right system concept, through creating the layout, building the quote, and supporting the project as it moves forward. The ideal candidate enjoys working in a smaller, hands-on manufacturing environment where you can have a direct impact on projects and see your ideas move from concept to reality. You’re comfortable wearing multiple hats, collaborating across departments, asking questions, solving problems, and getting involved in the details when needed. The ideal candidate can look at a customer's request and ask: · What system do they actually need? · How should it be laid out? · What equipment and components will it require? · What information are we missing? · What will it cost? · What risks or assumptions need to be addressed? · And how do we turn all of that into a proposal the customer understands? REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS · Demonstrated experience estimating and quoting conveyors, packaging lines, packaging equipment, and automation systems, including the ability to identify equipment, components, quantities, labor, and other requirements needed to develop accurate quotations. Experience developing high-level conveyor and automation system layouts using CAD, with a strong understanding of conveyor sizing, accumulation, transfers, pallet handling, product handling, and related material-flow applications. Strong mechanical and application-engineering understanding, with familiarity with electrical controls and automation systems and the ability to translate customer requirements into practical equipment and system concepts. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with the ability to evaluate project requirements, identify potential issues, and develop practical solutions. Ability to manage multiple opportunities, projects, and deadlines simultaneously while maintaining accuracy, responsiveness, and attention to detail. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical customers and internal teams. Ability to work effectively across Sales, Engineering, Project Management, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Controls, and Operations to move opportunities and projects forward. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, including the ability to create, manage, and analyze information effectively for estimating, quotations, documentation, and project coordination. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS · Project management, project coordination, customer-facing technical sales, or applications experience in a manufacturing or automation environment. Experience with ERP, estimating, quoting, or project-management software. Experience working in a custom-engineered or build-to-order manufacturing environment. Engineering, manufacturing, or technical degree preferred; equivalent relevant industry experience will be considered. THIS ROLE IS A GREAT FIT IF YOU ARE… A Sales Applications Engineer who enjoys working directly with customers and Sales. An experienced salesperson in conveyors, packaging equipment, or automation who also has strong CAD skills and can develop high-level system layouts and solutions. A project engineer who has strong estimating and quoting experience. A project manager who understands equipment design and has strong CAD skills and the ability to create high-level layouts. An experienced conveyor and packaging line professional who understands how a system goes together and what it takes to build it profitably. This is not a purely CAD-focused position, a quote-administration position, or a traditional outside sales role. We need someone who can connect the dots between customer requirements, system design, estimating, quoting, and supporting project execution, as needed. WHY SYSTEM TECHNOLOGY, INC.?
