Amazon is currently looking for a Safety Investigations Analyst to join Middle Mile Investigations (MMI) within NAST Safety and Compliance. The Safety Investigations Analyst owns investigation of Middle Mile transportation incidents end to end, from intake through documented finding, across Amazon's carrier programs: Relay Motor Carrier (RMC), Relay Motor Carrier LineHaul (RMCLH), Relay Motor Carrier Box Truck (RMCBT), and Amazon Freight Partner (AFP). In this role you will conduct comprehensive incident investigations using telematics, video, and law enforcement records; apply FMCSA Crash Preventability Determination Program criteria; identify trends across regions, programs, and carriers; recommend enforcement action under published authority matrices; and serve as incident point of contact to internal stakeholders and external counsel. Findings inform network-level changes intended to reduce incident frequency and severity. The successful candidate writes clearly for senior audiences, reaches defensible conclusions from incomplete information, and works independently across competing deadlines. Key job responsibilities Investigation - Own assigned incident investigations end to end, from intake through documented finding, across RMC, RMCLH, RMCBT, and AFP. - Collect and preserve evidence including telematics, dash camera footage, law enforcement records, and carrier documentation. - Apply FMCSA Crash Preventability Determination Program criteria and video review standards. - Write investigation narratives documenting what occurred and the factors identified, each sourced to verifiable data. - Serve as incident point of contact to internal stakeholders and, when assigned, external counsel. Analysis and enforcement - Identify trends across regions, carrier programs, and individual carriers, and surface them to the Program Manager. - Recommend enforcement action under published authority matrices. - Query multiple data systems to extract and reconcile investigation data. Operating rhythm - Maintain case records and queue status in the systems of record, keeping tracking current and auditable. - Review recurring vendor investigation reports for completeness, and escalate vendor performance issues. - Report investigation status, closure metrics, and case aging to the Program Manager on a recurring cadence. - Propose improvements to investigation process and standard work. A day in the life Your morning starts with the queue: new incidents overnight, open evidence requests, cases aging. You pull telematics and video on an assigned collision and chase the law enforcement report and carrier documentation. By afternoon you are writing the narrative, sourcing every line. Some events bring outside counsel into the file, and you are the person who knows what happened. A pattern you flagged last month across two regions becomes a recommendation your Program Manager takes to an enforcement decision. No two investigations are the same, and what you document today shapes what the network changes next quarter. About the team Middle Mile Investigations (MMI) sits within NAST Safety and Compliance. We investigate transportation incidents across Amazon's Middle Mile carrier programs, document what happened from verifiable evidence, and surface patterns that inform how the network operates. The team is small and geographically distributed. Analysts own their cases rather than a shared queue, and the written product carries to senior leaders who act on it.
