You'll be the face of The Joint to candidates, the architect of our hiring process, and the steward of our team's first experience with our company. This role is critical to building a culture of excellence from day one. The Role As Recruiter & HR Coordinator, you are The Joint's primary talent acquisition and onboarding professional. You'll recruit, screen, and interview candidates for all positions across both of our dispensary locations (Norridge and Crestwood). You'll create a smooth, professional onboarding experience that sets new hires up for success and reflects our brand. You'll coordinate benefits enrollment and ensure all paperwork is complete and compliant. You report directly to ownership and partner closely with our General Managers on hiring decisions and team fit. What You'll Do ●Recruiting & Candidate Sourcing ● Develop and execute recruiting strategies to attract qualified candidates for all positions: Budtenders, Agents-in-Charge, Greeters, and other front-line staff. ● Post job openings on relevant job boards, The Joint's careers website, and social media; manage and respond to all applicant inquiries professionally and promptly. ● Build and maintain a pipeline of candidates; proactively source talent through networking, referral programs, and direct outreach. ● Screen resumes and applications against job requirements; identify candidates who align with The Joint's culture and service standards. ● Conduct initial phone and video interviews to assess communication skills, retail experience, product knowledge, and cultural fit. Screening & Interview Process ● Coordinate the interview schedule between candidates and General Managers; provide detailed feedback and notes to GMs on all interviewed candidates. ● Conduct reference checks on finalist candidates; verify employment history and validate qualifications. ● Manage the offer process: prepare offer letters, communicate terms clearly, and respond to candidate questions professionally. ● Maintain a consistent, professional tone throughout the candidate experience—every interaction reflects The Joint's brand. Onboarding & New Hire Administration ● Prepare and organize all new hire paperwork: I-9, W-4, state tax forms, employment agreements, confidentiality agreements, and compliance acknowledgments. ● Conduct new hire orientation; explain company policies, workplace expectations, benefits eligibility, and next steps with The Joint. ● Coordinate new hire start dates, first-day logistics, and introductions to store management and team members. ● Create and maintain a 30-60-90 day onboarding checklist; follow up with new hires to ensure smooth transition and early success. ● Maintain accurate personnel files with all required documentation, signed acknowledgments, and records. Benefits Administration & Employee Support ● Guide new hires through benefits enrollment: health insurance, dental, vision, and any other company-provided benefits. ● Provide clear explanation of plan options, costs, coverage details, and enrollment deadlines; answer benefits-related questions. ● Maintain benefits administration records and coordinate with benefits providers on enrollment, changes, and compliance. ● Support employees with benefits questions, plan changes, and claims processes throughout their tenure. Reporting & Record Keeping ● Track hiring metrics: applications received, interview rates, time-to-hire, offer acceptance rates, and candidate sources. ● Prepare monthly or quarterly hiring reports and insights for ownership; identify trends and recommend recruiting improvements. ● Maintain organized records of all applicants, interviews, hires, and personnel files in compliance with legal requirements. ● Serve as a resource to General Managers on hiring process questions, best practices, and compliance with employment law. What We're Looking For ● 3+ years of HR experience, with at least 2+ years in recruiting and hiring for retail or hospitality roles. ● Proven track record of successful talent acquisition: strong sourcing skills, high-quality candidate screening, and positive candidate feedback. ● Experience with benefits administration, enrollment coordination, and benefits communication to employees. ● Deep proficiency in HR systems and ATS (Applicant Tracking System); comfort with spreadsheets and HR data management. ● Perfect English communication skills—written and verbal; polished, professional tone in all candidate and employee interactions. ● Excellent organizational and time-management skills; ability to manage multiple open positions and recruit across two locations simultaneously. ● Strong interpersonal and communication skills; comfortable conducting interviews, delivering feedback, and collaborating with hiring managers. ● Detail-oriented with meticulous attention to compliance, accuracy, and record-keeping. ● Enthusiasm for retail, hospitality, and building high-performing teams. ● Knowledge of Illinois employment law and HR compliance is a plus.
