Position: Project Manager / Civil Engineer – Healthcare & Medical Projects Company: Al Bahri Engineering Consultancy & Interior Design Location: Abu Dhabi, UAE Employment Type: Full-Time Department: Projects / Engineering

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced Project Manager / Civil Engineer with a strong background in managing healthcare, hospital, and medical facility construction and fit-out projects in the UAE.

The ideal candidate must have extensive experience working with engineering consultancy firms , overseeing projects from design development and authority approvals through construction supervision, testing, commissioning, and final handover.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing multidisciplinary engineering teams, ensuring project delivery within approved timelines, budgets, quality standards, and regulatory requirements, particularly for healthcare and hospital developments.

Key Responsibilities1. Project Management & Execution

• Lead and manage healthcare and hospital projects from initiation through completion and handover.
• Oversee construction, renovation, refurbishment, and fit-out works for hospitals, clinics, medical centers, and specialized healthcare facilities.
• Develop and monitor project schedules, budgets, resource allocation, and execution plans.
• Ensure projects are delivered within contractual timelines, approved budgets, and quality requirements.
• Identify project risks, resolve technical challenges, and implement corrective actions to prevent delays.

1. Engineering Consultancy & Construction Supervision

• Supervise civil, structural, architectural, and multidisciplinary engineering activities.
• Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, MEP engineers, healthcare planners, contractors, and specialist consultants.
• Review construction drawings, shop drawings, material submittals, method statements, and technical documentation.
• Monitor site progress and ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and contractual requirements.
• Conduct regular site inspections, technical meetings, and progress reviews.
• Review contractor submissions, progress reports, and variation requests in accordance with contractual procedures.

1. Healthcare & Hospital Project Coordination

• Manage projects involving hospitals, medical centers, outpatient clinics, diagnostic facilities, laboratories, and specialized treatment areas.
• Ensure coordination of healthcare-specific requirements, including medical equipment interfaces, clinical workflows, infection prevention, and patient safety considerations.
• Coordinate with medical planners, biomedical engineers, healthcare equipment suppliers, and specialized contractors.
• Oversee interfaces involving operating theatres, intensive care units, imaging departments, laboratories, and other critical healthcare areas, as applicable.
• Ensure healthcare facility designs and construction activities comply with applicable regulatory requirements and approved project specifications.

1. Authority Approvals & Regulatory Compliance

• Coordinate with relevant UAE authorities, including the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH), Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), Civil Defence, and other applicable regulatory bodies.
• Ensure compliance with UAE building codes, healthcare facility requirements, fire and life safety regulations, and applicable international standards.
• Monitor authority submissions, approvals, inspections, and project completion requirements.

1. Client & Stakeholder Management

• Act as the primary point of contact for clients, contractors, consultants, and project stakeholders.
• Lead project coordination meetings and provide regular updates to senior management and clients.
• Manage project expectations, technical concerns, design changes, and contractual matters.
• Maintain professional relationships with healthcare developers, hospital operators, and regulatory authorities.

1. Quality, Safety & Project Handover

• Ensure implementation of quality assurance and quality control procedures.
• Monitor contractor compliance with health, safety, and environmental requirements.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary inspections, testing, commissioning, snagging, and final handover.
• Review as-built drawings, operation and maintenance manuals, completion certificates, and other handover documentation.

Qualifications & Experience

Education

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized university.
• Master's Degree in Construction Management, Project Management, or a related field is an advantage.
• PMP certification is highly preferred.

Professional Experience

• Minimum 10–15 years of relevant experience in civil engineering, construction supervision, and project management.
• At least 5 years of direct experience in healthcare, hospital, or medical facility projects is strongly preferred.
• Proven experience working with engineering consultancy or construction supervision firms in the UAE.
• Demonstrated experience managing multidisciplinary teams and large-scale construction or healthcare fit-out projects.
• Previous experience managing hospital construction, renovation, or medical facility development projects is essential.
• Strong understanding of UAE authority approval processes and healthcare construction requirements.

Technical Skills & Competencies

• Strong knowledge of civil engineering, construction management, and project supervision.
• Experience in managing architectural, structural, MEP, and healthcare-specialist interfaces.
• Proficiency in Primavera P6, MS Project, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office.
• Familiarity with BIM coordination and Revit is an advantage.
• Knowledge of FIDIC contracts, project documentation, variations, and claims management.
• Understanding of healthcare facility design standards and relevant UAE regulations.
• Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong client relationship management and reporting capabilities.

Preferred Candidate Profile

• Currently working or previously employed by a reputable engineering consultancy or construction supervision company in the UAE .
• Has successfully managed or supervised hospital or healthcare facility projects.
• Possesses strong experience in both technical engineering supervision and overall project management.
• Capable of leading multidisciplinary teams, including Civil, Architectural, Mechanical, Electrical, and specialist healthcare consultants.
• Available to work in Abu Dhabi and attend project sites as required.
