Job Overview
We’re seeking a high-ownership Production / Shop Facility Manager to stabilize and scale shop execution through daily management cadence, schedule reliability, WIP control, and quality gates. This is a hands-on leadership role that coordinates multiple builds at once, sets milestones, removes blockers, and provides accurate visibility into percent complete, capacity, and ship-date confidence.
The right candidate is not just “experienced in a shop” — they’ve installed operating discipline before: boards, metrics, cadence, escalation rules, and repeatable SOPs that stick.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Execution Leadership
- Run daily shop cadence (AM standups, priorities, blocker removal, end-of-day wrap + next-day plan)
- Coordinate multiple concurrent builds with clear milestone planning and ownership
- Maintain real-time production visibility (status, % complete, constraints, completion date forecasts)
Schedule Reliability & WIP Control
- Drive plan vs. actual tracking and improve schedule adherence
- Implement and enforce WIP limits, staging, and kitting discipline to keep work flowing
- Coordinate purchasing/inventory and production needs to prevent stockout delays
Quality Gates & Rework Reduction
- Implement quality gates, first-pass quality standards, and rework tracking
- Identify root causes of repeat issues and install corrective actions + standard work
Cross-Functional Handoffs
- Tighten handoffs from CAD/PM → shop (build-ready packages, change control discipline, clear priorities)
- Ensure work is ready before it hits the floor (scope clarity, materials readiness, sequencing)
Systems & SOPs
- Build and document repeatable shop SOPs and train the team to follow them
- Establish and report simple weekly production status to leadership (delivery risk, bottlenecks, throughput)
Qualifications
Required
- 3+ years leading production/shop execution in manufacturing or mixed-trades environments
- Proven experience installing daily management systems (cadence, boards, priorities, escalation, metrics)
- Strong floor leadership and communication; earns respect from skilled trades
- Strong organizational skills; able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Comfortable tracking production in tools (Excel/Sheets and/or software trackers)
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a hands-on shop environment
Preferred
- Experience scaling a small production team and implementing SOPs
- Mixed trades experience (electrical + carpentry + metal fabrication)
- Lean/continuous improvement experience (practical application preferred)
Benefits
- Competitive pay (based on qualifications and experience) + performance bonus
- Paid time off and holidays
- Retirement contributions
- Professional development opportunities and growth in a mission-driven company
Work Environment
- Schedule: 4-day (10-hour) or 5-day (8-hour) shifts; occasional overtime based on project demands
- Location: In-person at our McLeansboro, IL facility
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and work around tools/equipment in a shop environment
