Location: Lynchburg, VA Position: Full-Time, On-Site Pay: $57,000–$60,000 per year Travel: Up to 5 industry trade shows per year

About Engineer Supply

Engineer Supply is a leading provider of professional equipment, technology, and services for the surveying, geospatial, construction, and engineering industries. For more than 27 years, we have built strong relationships with many of the industry’s leading manufacturers while serving professionals with everything from precision surveying and geospatial technology to construction lasers, tools, and jobsite equipment. Beyond equipment sales, we provide full-cycle support through product expertise, service, repair, and e-commerce—giving professionals a trusted destination from purchase through the life of the product.

Today, Engineer Supply is a fast-growing, family-owned company with a tight-knit team and an expanding portfolio of brands, products, and businesses. As we continue to grow, we are creating new opportunities for talented people to take on greater responsibility, make an impact, and grow with the organization.

We are looking for a commercially minded Product & Category Manager to help drive our next stage of growth.

The Role

The Product & Category Manager will be responsible for answering two key questions: What should we sell next, and where should we sell it?

A major focus of this position is identifying and bringing in new brands, manufacturers, and product categories. You will research market opportunities, develop supplier relationships, evaluate potential products, and coordinate new product launches.

You will also help grow our third-party e-commerce marketplace business, manage relationships with existing manufacturers, and provide day-to-day leadership to a small product support team of approximately 2–3 employees.

This is not a product engineering or R&D role. We are looking for someone focused on products, vendors, e-commerce, and profitable growth.

Candidates with backgrounds in product management, category management, merchandising, purchasing, sourcing, e-commerce, vendor management, or business development are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify new manufacturers, brands, products, and categories while developing and expanding supplier relationships.
  • Evaluate opportunities using market demand, competition, sales data, pricing, margins, and overall business fit.
  • Help negotiate supplier pricing, dealer programs, terms, MAP policies, and channel requirements.
  • Coordinate new brand and product launches across sales, marketing, purchasing, operations, and e-commerce.
  • Grow third-party marketplace revenue and monitor the sales, pricing, margins, and profitability of new products and categories.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and direction to a product support team of approximately 2–3 employees.
  • Attend up to 5 industry trade shows per year to meet manufacturers, discover new products, strengthen relationships, and identify industry trends.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, E-Commerce, Supply Chain, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will also be considered.
  • Strong analytical and Excel skills, with the ability to understand sales, pricing, margins, profitability, and product performance.
  • Strong communicator and natural relationship builder who is comfortable engaging with manufacturers and suppliers, developing long-term partnerships, networking at industry events, and representing the company professionally.
  • Organized, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • E-commerce and digitally minded, with a genuine interest in products, markets, customers, and finding new opportunities for growth.
  • Experience in product, category management, e-commerce, purchasing, sourcing, or a related commercial role is a plus—not a requirement. Industry experience in surveying, geospatial, construction, or engineering is also beneficial but not required.

Above all, we’re looking for someone who is curious, driven, willing to learn, and excited to take ownership and grow with the company.

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role is measured by profitable growth—bringing in successful new brands and products, developing strong manufacturer relationships, growing new product categories, and increasing third-party marketplace revenue.

This is a full-time, on-site position in Lynchburg, VA. Remote or hybrid work is not available.
