Our collection includes books spanning medicine, science, history, philosophy, literature, and other areas of intellectual interest. We are looking for someone who can thoughtfully transform an existing collection into a beautiful, intuitive, and functional library that can be easily maintained and expanded over time. Project Responsibilities The selected candidate will: Review and inventory the existing book collection Develop a practical classification and organizational system appropriate for a small private library Categorize, arrange, and shelve the collection Create a simple, searchable catalog or database Recommend appropriate labeling and identification methods Identify duplicate, outdated, or unnecessary materials and recommend items for donation, relocation, or removal Recommend optimal placement of books and subject areas within the clinic Establish a straightforward process for adding new materials to the collection Develop a simple borrowing/check-out process, if appropriate, for physicians, staff, interns, and other authorized users Provide clear written instructions for maintaining the organizational and cataloging system after completion of the project Qualifications We welcome candidates with backgrounds such as: Professional librarian or archivist Library and information science professional MLIS graduate or current graduate student Academic, medical, specialty, or private-library professional Experienced personal-collection or private-library organizer Previous experience organizing a private, academic, medical, specialty, or professional collection is preferred but not required. The ideal candidate will be: Highly organized and detail-oriented Comfortable independently managing a defined project Intellectually curious and thoughtful about classification and organization Able to balance practical organization with the aesthetics of the library and clinic environment Comfortable working collaboratively with clinic leadership to determine organizational priorities Proficient with basic digital cataloging, spreadsheet, database, or library-management tools Schedule and Project Duration The schedule is flexible based on the selected candidate's availability and recommended approach. The project may potentially be completed: Full-time over approximately 1–2 weeks , or Part-time over several weeks The majority of the work will be performed on-site at Dolhun Clinic in San Francisco . Limited administrative or cataloging work may be completed remotely if appropriate and approved in advance. Physical Requirements This project may require standing for extended periods, reaching and working with shelving, and lifting or moving books and small boxes of materials.
