President & Chief Executive Officer

Habitat for Humanity East Bay/Silicon ValleyOakland, CA

Vision : A world where everyone has a decent place to live.

Mission: Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope.

Habitat for Humanity East Bay/Silicon Valley ("HEBSV") is a leading affordable housing nonprofit serving more than 1,000 people annually through new home construction, home repair and rehabilitation, as well as financial literacy programs. With approximately 80 staff and AmeriCorps members, $28-30 million in annual revenue, and $46 million in total assets, HEBSV operates across a diverse portfolio that includes homebuilding, home repair/rehab, mortgage origination, project financing, Community Development Financial Institution ("CDFI") oversight, financial education, retail operations, fundraising, and government grants management.

THE POSITION AND THE OPPORTUNITY

Accountable to the Board of Directors, the President & Chief Executive Officer ("CEO") provides vision, strategy, and operational leadership for HEBSV in pursuit of its mission. This role has full executive responsibility for the organization's strategic direction, financial health, fundraising, board relations, volunteer support and engagement, community and civic engagement, and oversight of all program operations.

The CEO will work in close partnership with the Board to shape a strategic framework that addresses the dynamic and urgent needs of affordable homeownership across the region; the CEO will work with senior staff to translate that strategy into annual plans, tactics, and measurable results. Success in this role requires innovation, financial acumen, and a sense of urgency, balanced with a genuine commitment to nurturing staff, volunteers, and partner families to better support our community.

This is an exciting inflection moment in HEBSV's trajectory as a critical provider of affordable homeownership, in the larger environment of shrinking government support for affordable housing, the challenges of homeownership versus rental housing, as well as rising construction costs. Hence, increasing and diversifying funding is a top priority for the CEO. This will require crisp mission and strategic clarity, creative problem solving, and increased community engagement. It will also manifest in building out the housing and production pipeline, and balancing growth goals with the business model of homeownership and housing preservation.

Executive leadership and management challenges and opportunities include implementing effective retention mechanisms as well as assessing and ensuring optimization of operating results. Increasing cross functional collaboration is desired by existing functional teams, enabled by an organizational culture with high levels of trust, receptivity to feedback, and clear accountability to clear expectations. The CEO will have the privilege of leading a strong team, with many well-tenured members, with significant subject matter expertise.

This is an exciting opportunity to tackle affordable homeownership and to leverage the prestige of Habitat's brand to make meaningful social impact in one of the most exciting, vibrant economic regions with high housing needs in the country.
