This role will be responsible for managing the five-year arc flash study refresh program, performing technical quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) of power system studies using SKM Power*Tools, and managing the electrical Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) program across North American facilities. This position requires a strong understanding of industrial MV and LV power distribution systems. The successful candidate will combine technical engineering expertise with program management capabilities to improve electrical system reliability, reduce operational risks, and maintain electrical safety standards across a large portfolio of operating facilities. This role requires 50% or more travel to operational facilities across North America to perform technical assessments, investigate equipment reliability issues, validate engineering studies, and support electrical safety program implementation. Key job responsibilities Arc Flash Study Refresh Program - Manage the five-year arc flash study refresh program across North American facilities, ensuring timely completion and alignment with applicable electrical safety standards - across 200+ facilities annually. - Maintain study inventories, track refresh schedules, and prioritize facilities based on electrical system changes, risk, and program requirements. - Coordinate with third-party engineering firms and site teams to collect and validate electrical system data. - Review study deliverables, identify deficiencies and NEC violations, propose appropriate cost-effective resolutions, and track corrective actions through closure, including arc flash labeling, relay/breaker settings adjustment, equipment replacement, and documentation updates. - Establish program performance metrics and reporting to track study completion, deficiencies, and overall program health. - Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and develop corrective and preventive actions to address equipment failures and recurring reliability concerns. - Investigate electrical equipment failures, recurring faults, protective device misoperations, and power distribution system reliability issues. Power Systems Studies and Technical QA/QC - Perform detailed technical QA/QC of power system studies using SKM Power*Tools, including short-circuit, protective device coordination, arc flash, and load flow analyses. - Independently review and validate SKM models, study assumptions, equipment parameters, protective device settings, and engineering calculations. - Identify modeling errors, inconsistencies, and technical deficiencies in studies submitted by external engineering consultants. - Verify study results against applicable IEEE, NFPA, and other relevant engineering standards. - Review engineering recommendations related to protective device coordination, incident energy reduction, equipment ratings, and electrical system reliability. - Document QA/QC findings, coordinate corrections with engineering consultants, and verify resolution before accepting final study deliverables. - Develop and maintain standardized study review checklists, technical acceptance criteria, and QA/QC processes. Electrical Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) Program - Manage the North American electrical LOTO program, including technical standards, implementation oversight, performance monitoring, and continuous improvement. - Develop, maintain, and standardize electrical energy control requirements and procedures across operational facilities. - Review electrical isolation procedures, equipment-specific energy control requirements, and single-line diagrams to ensure technically sound isolation practices. - Partner with site maintenance teams and Workplace Health & Safety to implement program requirements, identify gaps, and drive corrective actions. - Establish and monitor program performance metrics, audit findings, and corrective action closure. - Provide technical guidance on electrical energy isolation, verification of absence of voltage, and safe electrical work practices. - Coordinate periodic program reviews, procedural updates, and technical training requirements. Electrical Reliability Engineering - Provide electrical reliability engineering support for operating facilities, focusing on improving equipment performance, reducing unplanned downtime, and mitigating electrical system risks. - Evaluate electrical equipment condition, maintenance practices, and failure trends to identify opportunities for reliability improvements. - Support the development and optimization of preventive and condition-based maintenance strategies for electrical distribution equipment. - Partner with site maintenance and operations teams to troubleshoot electrical system issues and implement sustainable engineering solutions. - Provide emergency on-call support to facilities in North America. - Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent - 5+ years’ experience performing power system studies (Short Circuit, Protective Device Coordination, Arc Flash) for medium-voltage and low-voltage industrial electrical distribution systems - 3+ years of hands-on proficiency with SKM Power*Tools for Windows (PTW), including power system modeling, short-circuit analysis, breaker and relay protective device coordination, and arc flash analysis. - Experience independently performing technical QA/QC of power system studies, including reviewing and validating SKM models and engineering results. - Working knowledge of NFPA 70E, IEEE 1584-2018, applicable IEEE power system standards, and local electrical codes. - Experience interpreting electrical single-line diagrams, protective device settings, and electrical equipment specifications. - Experience managing multiple engineering projects or technical programs involving multiple stakeholders. - Ability to travel 50% or more across North America, including frequent visits to operating facilities.
