The role ensures that temperature-controlled environments remain stable and compliant with safety and regulatory standards. The Plant Engineer oversees preventive maintenance, performs troubleshooting and repairs, and coordinates with operations to minimize downtime and maintain uninterrupted plant performance. This position also leads the engineering team, supports facility improvements, and ensures reliable and safe cold storage operations. B. Job Duties & Responsibilities 1. Equipment Operation & Maintenance Oversee the operation, repair, and preventive maintenance of refrigeration systems (ammonia/freon), compressors, condensers, evaporators, and cooling towers. Conduct regular inspections to ensure all mechanical and electrical systems are functioning efficiently. Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and utility equipment failures. Ensure proper calibration and performance of temperature controls and monitoring devices. 2. Facility Management Maintain the physical structure of the cold storage plant including floors, walls, insulation panels, doors, docking areas, and racking systems. Monitor and maintain fire safety equipment, emergency lighting, ventilation systems, and alarm systems. Oversee water, power, and waste management systems to ensure consistent supply and efficient usage. 3. Refrigeration System Oversight Maintain optimal temperature levels required for different product types (frozen, chilled, ambient). Monitor ammonia levels, pressure readings, condenser performance, and overall plant temperature stability. Ensure safe and efficient operation during defrost cycles and peak load conditions. Maintain logs of temperature variations and initiate corrective actions when required. 4. Preventive Maintenance Planning Create and implement preventive maintenance schedules for all facility equipment. Maintain accurate maintenance records and update maintenance management systems. Coordinate with suppliers and contractors for major repairs and system upgrades. 5. Health, Safety & Compliance Ensure compliance with DOLE, DENR, BFAR, and other regulatory requirements related to cold storage operations. Enforce safety protocols for ammonia handling and emergency response. Conduct regular safety inspections and implement corrective actions for identified hazards. Participate in safety drills (ammonia leak response, fire drills, equipment shutdown procedures). 6. Energy Efficiency & Cost Management Monitor power consumption and implement energy-saving measures. Optimize refrigeration loads to minimize costs without compromising product quality. Recommend upgrades or modifications to improve efficiency of plant equipment. 7. Team Coordination & Supervision Supervise technicians, maintenance personnel, and contractors performing work inside the facility. Provide technical guidance, training, and performance evaluation for engineering staff. Coordinate with Operations, Logistics, and QA regarding equipment schedules, repairs, and downtime. 8. Documentation & Reporting Maintain equipment manuals, drawings, and technical specifications. Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly technical reports (temperature logs, maintenance activities, breakdown reports). Document all repairs, replacements, and equipment conditions for audit purposes. 9. Project Management Lead improvement projects such as facility expansion, equipment installation, and system upgrades. Evaluate contractor performance during project works. Assist management in CAPEX planning and technical assessments. 10. Other duties related to Engineering that may be assigned from time to time. C. SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES 1. High level of interpersonal skills to work effective with others. 2. Skill in both verbal and written communication. 3. High level of analytical ability where problems are complex. 4. Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area required. 5. Knowledge of building codes and construction techniques. A. QUALIFICATIONS The incumbent must possess and competently apply the following knowledge, experience and/or skills: 1. Must be a licensed Engineer. ( Mechanical/Electrical preferred) 2. At least 4 year (s) of working experience as SITE Project Engineer. 3. Knows how to read and analyze conceptual design and Schematic diagram 4. With experience in cold storage operations.
