We are a Chartered Building Company (CIOB) currently operating in four key sectors: Commercial and Industrial Retail and Leisure Public Sector Specialist and Bespoke (our Specialist and Bespoke service involves the Design and Manufacture of fitted and loose Joinery products). We are a dependable, forward thinking business that combines the creativity of a design led company with the reliability of a Main Contractor, with specialist divisions in Joinery Manufacturing and Passive Fire Protection. The Passive Fire Division Passive fire protection is one of the specialist divisions we are actively developing, and this role will lead it. We are a FIRAS accredited contractor across four modules, Fire Door Installation, Fire Door Maintenance, Penetration Sealing (Fire Stopping) and Cavity Barriers, and we are third party Certifire door manufacturers, producing timber fire rated door sets in our own North West joinery facility. That combination of manufacture and accredited installation under one roof is what makes us unique. The division delivers passive fire works in two ways: Servicing Amspec’s own fit out, refurbishment and maintenance projects. Direct client appointments for passive fire works only, across private and public sector buildings, including hospitality, commercial workspaces, residential, healthcare, education and industrial. Our scope covers survey, compliance reporting, maintenance, manufacture and installation, all recorded through Bolster, our building compliance platform, which creates the golden thread of information needed to identify, manage and delivery our passive fire works. Role Overview We are looking for an experienced Passive Fire Manager to take full ownership of the division and lead all passive fire works carried out by Amspec. Reporting directly to the Operations Director, you will manage our FIRAS Supervisors & wider installation team. You will be responsible for the team, the workload, the procurement, the technical standards and the commercial performance of the division. This is a client facing role as much as a technical one. Plan and allocate resource across concurrent projects, balancing Amspec’s own fit out workload against direct client appointments. Maintain the team’s training and competence matrix, ensuring operatives hold and retain the qualifications and third party approvals the work demands. Contribute to the growth of the division with senior management on capability, resource and market development. Client Facing and Enquiries Act as the first point of contact for all new and existing passive fire enquiries, responding promptly and professionally. Attend client meetings, carry out site visits and develop the relationships that generate repeat business and referrals. Ensure the estimating team receive complete, accurate information to price every enquiry, scope, drawings, survey data, tested details, access constraints, programme and any assumptions or exclusions. Support the preparation of proposals, method statements and technical submissions, and present them to clients where required. Represent Amspec’s passive fire capability to landlords, facilities teams, consultants and public sector clients. Work with the estimating and commercial teams on variations, remedial works pricing and ongoing maintenance regimes arising from survey findings. Procurement and Labour Management Plan and arrange all key procurement for passive fire works, tested and certified materials, systems, fire doorsets and ironmongery in good time to meet the site programme. Ensure every product specified and procured is supported by the correct third party test evidence and is used strictly within its tested field of application. Manage labour across the division and support our FIRAS Supervisors. Verify the competence and accreditation of any subcontract labour before it is deployed on accredited works. Work closely with our Production Manager on the manufacture, scheduling and delivery of our own certified fire doorsets to align with installation dates. Control material sign-off and ordering through Bolster in conjunction with the procurement team. Technical and Compliance Assurance Support Amspec’s FIRAS accreditation across all four modules, preparing for and hosting third party audits, closing out any observations and maintaining the standards required for continued certification. Review fire strategies, compartmentation drawings and technical information before works commence, and resolve gaps or conflicts with the design team and client. Ensure all works comply with Approved Document B, current Building Regulations, the building’s fire strategy and the relevant manufacturers’ tested data. Research and approve tested details to suit existing site conditions, escalating to manufacturers & Senior Management where no direct test evidence exists. Support compliance with Building Safety Act duties on applicable buildings, including information handover requirements. Work with the Health, Safety and Compliance Manager on RAMS, COSHH, toolbox talks and safe systems of work for all passive fire activities.
