Position Overview We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Part-Time HR Manager to oversee all aspects of Human Resources for our growing, global architectural materials company. This is an important role that will provide both day-to-day HR support and strategic HR leadershipto the organization. The ideal candidate will have broad experience across all areas of Human Resources and be comfortable working in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment. This individual will partner closely with the CEO and senior management to develop and implement HR policies, strengthen company culture, support employee development, improve organizational effectiveness, and ensure that HR practices are consistent, professional, and compliant with applicable employment laws. The HR Manager will serve as a trusted resource for both management and employees and will bring sound judgment, discretion, professionalism, and a practical approach to the role. Key Responsibilities Strategic Human Resources Partner with the CEO and senior leadership to develop and implement an overall HR strategy aligned with the company's business objectives. Assess current organizational needs and recommend improvements to staffing, organizational structure, employee development, and retention. Develop short- and long-term workforce planning strategies based on anticipated business needs. Assist management with succession planning and identifying future leadership needs. Develop strategies to attract, retain, and develop high-performing employees. Establish and monitor HR metrics and provide management with meaningful information regarding staffing, turnover, compensation, performance, and other workforce trends. Help foster a strong company culture built around teamwork, accountability, professionalism, and excellent customer service. HR Policies & Procedures Review, update, and develop company HR policies and procedures as the organization evolves. Maintain and periodically update the Employee Handbook. Ensure that policies are communicated clearly and consistently to employees and managers. Establish appropriate procedures for onboarding, performance management, employee conduct, attendance, leave, workplace expectations, and offboarding. Monitor changes in employment laws and regulations and recommend appropriate changes to company policies and practices. Work with outside employment counsel and other advisors when appropriate. Employee Relations Serve as a confidential and trusted resource for employees and managers regarding workplace questions and concerns. Advise management on employee relations matters, performance issues, disciplinary situations, and workplace conflicts. Help resolve employee concerns fairly, consistently, and professionally. Promote open communication and a positive working environment. Conduct or assist with employee investigations when necessary. Maintain appropriate confidentiality regarding employee and company matters. Recruiting & Staffing Partner with management to identify staffing needs and develop job descriptions. Assist with recruiting, interviewing, candidate evaluation, reference checks, and hiring decisions. Help ensure that job descriptions, compensation, and responsibilities are appropriately structured. Develop and improve the company's onboarding process for new employees. Ensure new employees receive appropriate information, training, and resources to successfully begin their roles. Performance Management & Employee Development Develop and manage an effective employee performance review process. Work with managers to establish clear job expectations, goals, and performance standards. Assist managers with performance improvement plans and ongoing performance management. Identify training and professional development opportunities. Help create career-development paths and opportunities for advancement within the organization. Support management in developing future leaders and strengthening the company's overall talent base. Compensation & Benefits Work with management and outside advisors to review compensation practices and maintain competitive salary structures. Assist with annual compensation reviews and recommendations. Administer and coordinate employee benefits programs in conjunction with benefits providers and company management. Monitor benefit offerings and make recommendations regarding improvements or changes. Maintain accurate employee compensation and benefits records. Compliance & Risk Management Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations. Maintain required employee records and HR documentation. Oversee compliance relating to employment practices, workplace policies, leave requirements, wage and hour matters, and required postings and notices. Coordinate with outside HR consultants, benefits providers, payroll providers, and employment counsel as needed. Assist with workplace safety and employee-related risk management initiatives. HR Administration Maintain accurate and confidential personnel files and HR records. Coordinate with payroll to ensure accurate employee information and changes. Manage employee onboarding and offboarding procedures. Track vacations, leave, employee status changes, and other HR-related information. Develop and maintain HR processes that are efficient, organized, and appropriate for a company of our size. Evaluate HR technology, systems, and processes and recommend improvements where appropriate. Company Culture & Employee Engagement Help strengthen employee engagement, morale, teamwork, and communication. Support company events, employee recognition programs, staff meetings, and other culture-building initiatives. Develop programs that recognize employee contributions and encourage professional growth. Serve as a resource to management in maintaining a positive, respectful, and collaborative workplace. Qualifications 5+ years of progressive Human Resources experience, preferably in a mid-sized company where the HR professional has had broad responsibility. Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred. Strong knowledge of all major HR functions, including employee relations, recruiting, compensation, benefits, compliance, performance management, policy development, and organizational planning. Experience developing and implementing HR policies and procedures. Demonstrated experience working with senior management on strategic HR matters. Strong understanding of multi-state employment laws and HR compliance requirements, particularly in New York. Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. High degree of discretion and ability to handle confidential and sensitive information. Strong judgment and the ability to advise management appropriately while maintaining positive employee relationships. Comfortable working independently and taking initiative. Strong writing and documentation skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and HR/payroll systems. SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification is a plus. Part-Time Schedule This position is expected to work three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) with the flexibility to determine the most effective schedule in consultation with management. The HR Manager should be available to address time-sensitive employee matters when reasonably necessary.
