Operations Manager – Moving Company

Compensation: $65,000–$80,000 base salary (DOE), plus a performance bonus of up to 20% of base salary Position Summary 4US Moving is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead daily moving operations, improve company performance, and build reliable, high-quality moving teams. The ideal candidate has management experience with an established moving company and understands dispatch, staffing, crew training, customer service, safety, claims, and operational profitability. This person must be intelligent, responsive, accountable, highly professional, and comfortable working with employees and customers from diverse backgrounds. The Operations Manager will work closely with company ownership and leadership to strengthen operations and support sustainable growth. Key Responsibilities Operations Management Oversee daily moving operations, scheduling, dispatch, staffing, and job execution. Ensure crews arrive prepared, on time, and properly equipped. Monitor job quality, productivity, overtime, damage, claims, and customer complaints. Resolve operational problems quickly and professionally. Maintain adequate staffing for scheduled and projected business volume. Create clear procedures and accountability across the operation. Team Leadership and Training Recruit, train, coach, and manage drivers, foremen, movers, and operational staff. Build dependable, professional, and high-performing moving crews. Establish onboarding and ongoing training programs. Conduct regular performance reviews and corrective coaching. Improve employee retention, attendance, communication, and accountability. Develop qualified employees for greater responsibilities. Customer Experience Ensure customers receive professional and dependable service. Monitor customer satisfaction, complaints, refunds, damages, and claims. Investigate service failures and implement corrective actions. Promote a customer-first culture throughout the company. Business Performance Help the company increase revenue while protecting service quality and profitability. Monitor labor utilization, overtime, crew productivity, and operating costs. Review operational reports and communicate results to ownership. Identify opportunities to improve capacity, efficiency, and margins. Support planning for seasonal demand and company growth. Safety and Compliance Maintain compliance with applicable transportation, employment, safety, licensing, and insurance requirements. Confirm that drivers and crews maintain required documents and qualifications. Ensure no employee begins work before completing required background checks and drug testing. Promote safe driving, lifting, loading, packing, and equipment practices. Maintain accurate operational and employee records. Address safety incidents promptly and document corrective action. Required Qualifications At least five years of moving-industry experience. At least three years of operational management or general management experience. Experience managing drivers, foremen, movers, dispatchers, or similar operational teams. Strong understanding of moving-company operations, including dispatch, scheduling, labor planning, customer service, claims, and crew performance. Demonstrated ability to train employees and build high-quality teams. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Excellent judgment, organization, follow-through, and problem-solving ability. Ability to work effectively with employees and customers from different cultures and backgrounds. Professional, responsive, dependable, and easy to work with. Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency with standard business software and operational reporting. Preferred Qualifications Management experience with a large or multi-location moving company. Experience scaling moving operations or opening new markets. Experience developing training programs and operating procedures. Knowledge of interstate and intrastate moving requirements. Experience improving revenue, profitability, customer satisfaction, and employee retention. Bilingual or multilingual communication ability.
