As we continue to grow, we’re looking for an experienced and driven Operations Manager – Metering to join our team in Manchester and play a key role in delivering operational excellence across our metering function. The Role As Operations Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day performance and development of our metering operations, ensuring processes are efficient, compliant and customer-focused. You’ll work closely with internal teams, external partners and key stakeholders to drive performance, resolve complex issues and support operational change. You’ll also play an important role in developing team leaders, embedding best practice and identifying opportunities to improve our processes and systems. This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced operations professional who understands the energy industry and metering environment, enjoys solving problems and has a proven ability to lead teams through change and continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities Operational Performance Take ownership of metering operational performance, ensuring key targets and service levels are consistently achieved. Monitor and analyse operational data and performance metrics to identify trends, risks and areas for improvement. Work with teams to implement corrective actions and deliver sustainable performance improvements. Ensure operational processes are delivered efficiently, accurately and in line with business expectations. Change & Process Improvement Support the delivery of operational change initiatives across the metering function and wider business. Work closely with project and change teams, providing operational expertise, insight and practical support. Continuously review and improve workflows, processes and procedures to increase efficiency, quality and compliance. Identify opportunities to simplify processes, reduce operational risk and improve customer outcomes. Ensure changes are effectively embedded within teams and monitored following implementation. Leadership & Team Development Lead, coach and support team leaders to achieve operational and performance objectives. Develop leadership capability, operational knowledge and performance management skills within the team. Create a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and high performance. Support colleagues through operational change, ensuring clear communication and effective engagement. Stakeholder & Customer Management Build strong relationships with internal departments, external partners and industry stakeholders. Collaborate cross-functionally to resolve complex metering and customer issues. Proactively manage escalated queries and complaints, ensuring timely and effective resolution. Ensure customers receive a consistently high level of service across all communication channels. Risk, Compliance & Industry Requirements Ensure metering operations comply with relevant industry regulations, legislation and internal policies. Identify, monitor and mitigate operational risks. Promote a strong culture of compliance and operational control across teams. Support the management and submission of Requests for Information (RFIs) and other regulatory or industry requirements. Ensure appropriate controls, processes and documentation are maintained. Metering Expertise Develop and maintain strong technical knowledge of industry metering systems, processes and requirements. Keep up to date with industry developments, regulatory changes and operational best practice. Act as a subject matter expert for metering operations, supporting colleagues and wider business teams where required. Use your knowledge and experience to improve service quality and operational effectiveness. What We’re Looking For We’re looking for someone who is commercially aware, highly organised and confident managing people, performance and operational change. You’ll have: Proven experience in an operations management role, within the energy, utilities or metering sectors is a must . Strong knowledge of industry metering processes and systems. Experience managing operational performance against KPIs and SLAs. Experience coaching and developing team leaders and operational teams. A strong understanding of process improvement and operational change. Experience working across multiple departments and managing stakeholder relationships. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Experience managing customer escalations and complex operational issues. A good understanding of regulatory, compliance and risk requirements. Excellent communication and influencing skills. A proactive, hands-on approach with the ability to work independently. A genuine commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
