Inpatient Medical Coding Operations Manager Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Inpatient Medical Coding Operations Manager to lead and oversee our inpatient coding operations team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing coding quality, compliance, productivity, training initiatives, and operational performance while ensuring adherence to ICD-10, DRG, and regulatory requirements. This role requires a strong leader with extensive inpatient coding expertise, excellent analytical skills, and a passion for developing high-performing teams. Key Responsibilities Lead and supervise inpatient medical coding staff, ensuring quality, accuracy, and productivity targets are met. Oversee the review, interpretation, coding, and abstraction of inpatient medical records in accordance with ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, DRG, and regulatory guidelines. Establish, implement, and maintain coding compliance and quality assurance programs, including first-level audits and monitoring processes. Perform data quality reviews to validate coding accuracy, DRG assignments, documentation completeness, and compliance requirements. Analyze case mix, DRG trends, and coding performance metrics to identify opportunities for improvement. Collaborate with clinical and operational stakeholders to address documentation deficiencies and coding-related concerns. Ensure compliance with Medicare, OIG, HIPAA, and other applicable healthcare regulations and reporting requirements. Develop and deliver training programs to improve coding quality, documentation practices, and regulatory compliance. Manage team performance, including workforce planning, coaching, employee development, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions when necessary. Support recruitment, onboarding, and retention initiatives for coding staff. Stay current with coding guidelines, payer updates, industry regulations, and emerging technologies impacting Health Information Management. Participate in coding and reimbursement workshops and communicate relevant updates to the team. Monitor unbilled accounts and unresolved coding issues to help reduce revenue cycle delays and improve operational efficiency. Partner with leadership to develop and implement standardized coding policies, procedures, and best practices. Perform other duties as assigned. QualificationsRequired Experience 3 to 5 years of inpatient medical coding experience , including prior supervisory or management experience. Proven experience leading coding teams and managing coding operations. Required Certifications Candidates must possess at least one of the following certifications: CCS (Certified Coding Specialist) CIC (Certified Inpatient Coder) CPC (Certified Professional Coder) Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Advanced knowledge of medical record coding and abstraction principles. Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, disease processes, and reimbursement methodologies. Expert knowledge of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding systems. Familiarity with DRG assignment, clinical documentation improvement, and healthcare compliance standards. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Ability to interpret and evaluate complex technical reports and healthcare data. Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
