We want productive drivers, but never at the expense of safe driving. When Things Go Wrong, You’re the Problem Solver Drivers call out. Trucks break down. Routes get heavier than expected. Weather changes. Customers need help. Operational plans change. A strong Operations Manager doesn’t panic—they adjust the plan. We’re looking for someone with excellent contingency planning, decision-making, and problem-solving skills who can keep the operation moving when the unexpected happens. You’ll have an experienced Co-Manager, COO, and company leadership available for support, but we expect you to take initiative and bring solutions to the table. You Must Be Willing to Get in a Truck This is a hands-on management position. Most days, your job is to manage the operation—not run a route. But when circumstances require it, you must be physically capable and willing to operate a delivery vehicle and assist with deliveries. A great manager doesn’t ask the team to do something they wouldn’t be willing to do themselves. Who Succeeds Here? Our ideal Operations Manager is: Dependable and highly organized A strong communicator Comfortable holding employees accountable Calm under pressure Resourceful and solutions-oriented Competitive and performance-driven Safety-focused Strong at managing multiple priorities Reliable with follow-up and follow-through Comfortable making decisions independently Collaborative with other managers and company leadership Willing to do what reasonably needs to be done to get the operation across the finish line Most importantly, you take ownership. When something goes wrong, you’re focused on solving it—not explaining why it wasn’t your responsibility. Experience We’re Looking For Transportation, delivery, logistics, or field-operations management experience is strongly preferred. We especially want to hear from candidates with experience at: FedEx Ground Amazon DSP UPS DHL USPS Last-mile delivery companies Transportation or logistics companies Distribution operations Other high-volume field operations Previous FedEx Ground BC, Operations Manager, Lead Driver, or similar experience is a major plus. Strong candidates from other operational environments—including construction, warehouse, distribution, or businesses managing field employees—may also be considered. Qualifications Must be at least 21 years old Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record Able to pass required background and MVR screening Able to pass required drug screening (including marijuana) Able to meet applicable DOT driver qualification requirements Management or significant team-leadership experience required Transportation/logistics management experience strongly preferred Comfortable using computers, smartphones, spreadsheets, and operational systems Able to communicate professionally with drivers, customers, vendors, FedEx personnel, and company leadership Physically capable of assisting with delivery operations when necessary Schedule This is not a Monday-Friday, 9-to-5 management position. Your schedule will follow the needs of the operation and may include early mornings, longer days when issues arise, and weekend work as needed. At the same time, we believe management flexibility should go both ways. When the operation requires you, we need you available. When the team is staffed, routes are covered, and everything is running smoothly, there is flexibility in your schedule. We care more about the operation being successfully managed than having a manager sitting behind a desk for predetermined hours.
