Operations Manager
Operations Manager, Freight Brokerage Austin, TX | Full-time | Hybrid, 4 days in office Skyline Transport Group is an asset-based carrier and freight brokerage that has been moving America since 2012, with our own fleet, 150+ people nationwide, and 24/7 dispatch. Next month we open our third location, in Austin, and we are hiring the Operations Manager who will help build it from the ground up. This is not a seat where the process already exists and you keep it running. You will write the process. You will be the operational backbone of the operations you oversee, the person our account executives and back office turn to when a question needs an answer and a load needs saving. You will be the senior brokerage voice in the Austin office, and the role is built to grow as the company does. What You Will Own Build and maintain the SOPs for a growing brokerage operation: carrier vetting and onboarding, tender to delivery, exception handling, claims, and billing workflows. Define and track KPIs for a team of account executives who sell to shippers and manage their own accounts end to end, and coach to those numbers alongside leadership. Manage the daily workflow of our nearshore back-office team (track and trace, carrier onboarding, billing support), including handoffs, coverage schedules, and quality standards. Be the escalation point when something goes wrong on a live load, and turn every incident into a procedure so it goes right the next time. Coordinate day-to-day operations across the two locations you oversee so a customer gets the same standard of service no matter which desk moves their freight. Help interview, onboard, and develop new hires as the team grows, and build the training materials the next class learns from. Work directly with Skyline's executive team on how the Austin operation scales: tools, headcount, and process. What We Are Looking For 5+ years of freight brokerage experience, at a brokerage or 3PL, with real exposure to operations: carrier procurement, tracking, claims, and billing, not sales alone. You know the brokerage model from the inside: quoting and margin, covering loads on DAT and Truckstop, negotiating carriers, MC vetting and carrier packets, detention, OS&D, and claims. Experience at an asset carrier, freight forwarder, or warehouse alone does not qualify; this is a brokerage seat. You have built or documented process before: SOPs, playbooks, training materials, QA checklists. Show us one. Comfortable managing and coaching people, including a remote team in a different country and time zone. Fluent in the systems of the trade: TMS platforms, load boards, carrier vetting, onboarding and compliance tools, and spreadsheets you are not afraid of. We are building an in-house TMS, and you will help shape it. Calm under pressure. When a reefer goes dark at 2am, you are the person who makes it boring again. Looking to grow with a company, not pass through one. We promote from within, and this seat is the start of our operations leadership track. Based in the Austin metro. Relocation assistance is not offered for this role. Nice to Have Experience at a scaled brokerage, paired with the itch to build something from day one. Experience with process automation or an interest in operations tooling; we are investing in our systems and you will have a voice in them. The Details Full-time. Office in East Austin (final address being confirmed). Hybrid: 4 days a week in the office, with a heavier in-office presence expected during the first months while the location stands up. Competitive salary plus a performance bonus, paid out monthly. A benefits package is being finalized for the Austin location and will be reviewed during the interview process. Quarterly travel to our Vancouver, Washington headquarters. About Skyline Transport Group Asset-based carrier and brokerage headquartered in the Pacific Northwest, operating our own fleet since 2012.
