Operations & Facilities Manager

Waterloo School Austin · Austin, TX 78704

Operations & Facilities Manager The Manager of Operations & Facilities is a pivotal stewardship role focused on providing operational excellence supporting a vibrant, teacher-led, student-growth-centered school. This role encompasses managing resources, facilities, SOPs, risk and safety coordination, and overseeing special projects—all towards prioritizing the holistic growth of our students as individuals maturing in capacity, vision, and responsibility. At Waterloo, a teacher-led high school with fewer than one hundred students, we believe in embedding our mission into daily operations. While teachers hold significant ownership of the mission, the Operations & Facilities Manager will bring the expertise, mindset, and diligence needed to streamline and elevate these efforts. Though hands-on operational in nature, this role is deeply rooted in enriching the student experience—not by treating students or parents as consumers, but supporting teachers treating parents as partners in supporting students’ development as future-ready, thoughtful individuals. Key Responsibilities Learning Environment Management: Maintain and enhance the learning environment, including facilities upkeep and improvements (e.g., HVAC, A/V, small repairs, functionality), resources, equipment and supply management, and network infrastructure in a leased facility arrangement. Daily Logistics & School Event Coordination: Oversee logistics and systems for daily operations as well as special events such as showcases, assemblies, conference days, field excursions, fundraising events, and commencement ceremonies. Risk & Safety Management: Develop and maintain workplace and child safety protocols, manage situational drills, and implement safety procedures for all school activities and events. Ideal Candidate Profile This position is ideal for a self-motivated, innovative problem-solver with an equal passion for service, logistics and creative, cost-efficient solutions. You thrive on simplifying operational challenges, equipping others to work safely and effectively, and contributing to the personal and educational growth of students. While experience in an academic setting is not required, demonstrated expertise in event support, resource management, and project coordination is essential. Non-profit experience is beneficial. Skills and Attributes: Strong problem-solving and organization skills Experience with event planning and operational logistics Excellent interpersonal skills to engage with a diverse range of individuals Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion Proficiency with technology and systems management Strong systems-approach to planning and support Reporting Structure: This role reports directly to the Director of the school but interacts with and supports the entire faculty, staff, and student body.
