This is a hands-on leadership role with responsibility for the day-to-day running of the operation, ensuring we deliver a safe, compliant and reliable service to our customers. A key part of this role is building strong relationships with our drivers. We are looking for someone who will be visible within the operation, regularly engage with drivers face to face and create an environment where people feel listened to, valued and supported. The successful candidate will be a strong and consistent people manager who can balance operational performance, customer service and compliance while developing a positive workplace culture. Key Responsibilities: Lead the day-to-day Colnbrook operation, ensuring customer requirements and service levels are achieved. Provide visible, hands-on leadership across the operation. Build strong, positive and professional relationships with drivers through regular face-to-face engagement and open communication. Improve driver engagement and retention by creating a working environment based on trust, consistency, respect and accountability. Recruit, train, supervise and develop drivers and members of the operational team. Manage probation reviews, performance concerns and development plans consistently and appropriately. Ensure the team understands what is expected of them and has the support and training required to perform effectively. Build strong customer relationships through regular communication, practical advice and proactive issue management. Deliver contractual service levels and maintain agreed operational KPIs. Monitor the operation, schedules, orders and available data to identify issues and opportunities for improvement. Review working practices and implement improvements that strengthen service, accuracy, efficiency and profitability. Work closely with managers across other Goldstar locations to support the wider performance of the business. Respond to complex customer enquiries, complaints and operational incidents. Ensure the operation meets all applicable Good Distribution Practice (GDP),Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR) and Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) compliance requirements. Support compliance with Good Distribution Practice requirements when handling and transporting pharmaceutical products. Manage deviations and non-conformances, including customer communication and corrective actions where required. Promote a positive safety and security culture across the operation. About You You will be an experienced transport or logistics manager who enjoys being close to the operation and working directly with people. You will need: Previous management experience within transport, freight, logistics or a similar operational environment. A proven ability to build good working relationships with drivers. A strong, fair and consistent approach to people management. A highly organised and solution-oriented leader, able to work at pace, manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a demanding operational environment. Experience of leading, motivating and developing an operational team. Good knowledge of transport operations, vehicle compliance and driver management. Strong customer service and relationship-management skills. The confidence to manage difficult conversations, performance concerns and operational pressures. Good analytical and problem-solving skills. The ability to use operational information and KPIs to make informed decisions. Strong organisational and time-management skills. Confidence using Microsoft Office applications. A flexible and adaptable approach to changing operational priorities. A positive attitude and willingness to take ownership of challenges.
