Fascinated by the mechanics behind automated systems? Want to master both electrical and mechanical engineering while working with cutting-edge technology? Amazon is the perfect place to launch your career in Mechatronics Maintenance.
As one of the world's most advanced technology-driven companies, we're powered by automation, robotics, and continuous innovation - from robotic arms to complex conveyor networks and smart sensor technology that keep millions of customer orders moving. This apprenticeship gives you the chance to become a multi-skilled maintenance technician across both electrical and mechanical disciplines, with hands-on experience on industry-leading equipment, some of which only exists at Amazon.
Our European Engineering team is fundamental to our operations - they keep vital machinery running around the clock. As an OEM Engineering Technician Apprentice, you'll help maintain a wide range of equipment while upholding Health and Safety best practice, keeping your colleagues safe, preventing downtime, and improving the availability and quality of our equipment.
You'll thrive here if you stay calm when things go wrong and get a real kick out of fixing them. You're hands-on, curious about how machines work, and you understand that keeping production moving is what it's all about. And you don't need to be a qualified engineer to start - what matters most is a practical, problem-solving mindset and a hunger to learn.
A day in the life can involve:
- Carrying out proactive and preventative maintenance
- Carrying out reactive repairs and fault diagnosis in a live distribution warehouse
- Using the latest tools to maximise equipment effectiveness
- Making modifications and upgrades to existing equipment
- Upholding health and safety policies and practices
- Working on continuous improvement projects, and suggesting long-term improvements
Throughout your apprenticeship, you'll build a broad, in-demand engineering skillset, including:
- Fault diagnosis and preventative maintenance
- Mechanical device maintenance, and fluid power systems assembly and testing
- Electrical equipment wiring and testing
- Hydraulics and pneumatics
- Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) operations
- CAD design and 3D printing
Here at Amazon, it's in our nature to learn and be curious. Within this apprenticeship, you'll learn by doing, putting newfound knowledge into practice every day. Our first-class coaching, tailored development opportunities, and challenging, rewarding work will empower you to reach new heights. If you're a curious learner eager to grow, this is your chance to unlock your full potential and build the future you envision.
Throughout the apprenticeship you'll work towards an NFQ Level 6 Advanced Certificate in OEM Engineering, combining practical, on-the-job experience with industry-recognised study. The first 16 weeks of each year will be full-time residential (classroom training) at one of our training providers' facilities. As a result, you may be required to travel to the accommodation on a Sunday and work away from home until Friday each week during term time (costs supported by Amazon), combined with short periods working at one of our Fulfilment Centres, Sort Centres, or Delivery Stations.
In subsequent years, you'll undertake on-the-job training in a Fulfilment Centre while concurrently completing your academic training, learning directly from experienced technicians and engineers and gaining exposure to real engineering projects. Alongside invaluable experience, you'll gain a number of externally recognised qualifications.
This role supports our 24/7 operation, so you'll work shifts covering days, nights and weekends - patterns that reflect the real-world schedules of the engineers who keep Amazon operating around the clock.
You'll join a diverse and passionate team of engineers dedicated to driving results and pushing creative boundaries. We value different perspectives and experiences, and we're dedicated to creating an inclusive environment where everyone can thrive. Our employee-led affinity groups - including communities for women in tech, LGBTQ+ employees, and underrepresented minorities - foster a culture of inclusion that empowers us to be proud of our differences.
