Address - 800 Washington St, Boston, MA 02111 Network Engineer Palo Alto Firewall Enterprise Network Engineering and Security Operations Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Network Engineer with deep, hands-on Palo Alto Networks firewall expertise to design, implement, operate, and troubleshoot enterprise network security infrastructure. This role will serve as a primary technical resource for Palo Alto firewalls and Panorama while also supporting routing, switching, VPN, cloud connectivity, and related network services. The successful candidate will help maintain secure, highly available 24x7 operations in a complex healthcare and critical-care environment. Primary Responsibilities Design, configure, administer, and troubleshoot Palo Alto Networks next-generation firewalls using Panorama and local device management. Develop, review, and maintain security policies, zones, objects, application controls, URL filtering, threat-prevention profiles, decryption policies, and logging configurations. Configure and support network address translation, site-to-site IPsec VPNs, GlobalProtect remote access, high-availability firewall pairs, and routing through firewalls. Lead firewall lifecycle activities, including software upgrades, content updates, configuration backups, capacity reviews, hardware refreshes, and vulnerability remediation. Investigate complex connectivity and security issues using firewall traffic, threat, system, and authentication logs; packet captures; routing tables; session analysis; and related diagnostic tools. Evaluate and implement firewall changes through established change-control processes, including technical peer review, implementation planning, validation, and backout procedures. Partner with Information Security, infrastructure, application, cloud, and vendor teams to translate business requirements into secure and supportable network solutions. Design, configure, and support enterprise network infrastructure including routers, switches, load balancers, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, BGP, OSPF, and cloud connectivity. Monitor network availability and performance, respond to incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective or preventive actions. Maintain accurate network diagrams, firewall standards, rule documentation, operational procedures, inventories, and change records. Participate in project delivery, after-hours maintenance, and an on-call rotation supporting network-related emergencies in a 24x7 environment. Required Qualifications Substantial hands-on experience administering Palo Alto Networks firewalls in a large, complex enterprise environment; this is the primary requirement for the role. Strong working knowledge of Panorama, PAN-OS, security and NAT policy, App-ID, User-ID, GlobalProtect, IPsec VPNs, high availability, logging, and firewall troubleshooting. Demonstrated ability to independently analyze traffic flows, routing, sessions, packet captures, and firewall logs to resolve complex application and connectivity issues. Experience planning and executing production firewall changes, upgrades, migrations, and vulnerability remediation with appropriate validation and rollback procedures. Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, switching, VPNs, network segmentation, and common enterprise network-security principles. Experience supporting enterprise networking equipment and platforms such as Aruba or HPE, Cisco, Dell, F5, cloud networking, or software-defined WAN technologies. Experience with network monitoring, IP address management, configuration management, and documentation tools. Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills. Ability to collaborate effectively across technical teams and communicate risk, impact, and technical findings to non-network stakeholders. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting network infrastructure in healthcare, another regulated industry, or a similarly high-availability environment. Experience with Palo Alto cloud-managed or cloud-hosted firewalls, Azure or AWS networking, ExpressRoute or Direct Connect, and cloud VPN connectivity. Experience with network segmentation initiatives, firewall-platform migrations, data-center connectivity, and disaster-recovery design or testing. Familiarity with automation or scripting for network operations, configuration validation, reporting, or policy analysis.
