This in-person part-time position supports the marketing strategy of OCYL programming through social media presence, website management and print material. The Marketing Assistant position requires a self-motivated team member to work closely with the Director to manage social media, print publications and strategize marketing plans. This position includes front desk customer service. 3-4 shifts per week for an average of 16 hours PER WEEK including one afternoon shift, one evening shift and at least two Saturday mornings a month when programs are in session. The Town of Cumberland’s Mayor’s Office of Children, Youth & Learning (OCYL) is seeking a creative, organized, and community-minded Marketing Assistant to help promote our programs and connect families and students with opportunities to learn, participate, and thrive. This part-time position is ideal for someone who enjoys social media, graphic design, community outreach, and communicating with families. The Marketing Assistant will market programs and tell the story of OCYL through engaging digital and print communications while also providing friendly customer service and administrative support. Position Details Department: Mayor’s Office of Children, Youth & Learning (OCYL) Reports to: Director Liz White Term: Mayoral Appointment/Executive Staff; appointment runs concurrently with the Mayor’s term. Status: Municipal Executive Staff Hours: Part-time, hourly, year-round — 16 hours per week Compensation: $22–$23 per hour Location: 1464 Diamond Hill Road, Suite 2, Cumberland, RI 02864 Key Responsibilities Marketing & Communications Develop and support social media and marketing strategies for OCYL programs and initiatives. Create engaging print, digital, and social media materials for program promotion and outreach. Design and maintain internal and external marketing materials using Canva and other appropriate tools. Create and maintain a consistent and engaging social media presence, including Facebook and Instagram. Assist with website content and updates. Develop promotional materials and displays for public spaces within the building. Community & Customer Service Serve as a welcoming point of contact for families, students, instructors, and community members. Respond to phone calls, emails, and patron communications, including front-desk coverage as needed. Build and maintain positive relationships with instructors, students, families, and community partners. Assist with OCYL events and fundraising opportunities as needed. Qualifications & Skills The ideal candidate will be creative, dependable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with both digital communications and the public. Required: Associate’s degree; Bachelor’s degree preferred in Communications, Graphic Design, Marketing, or a related field. Excellent working knowledge of Canva, Facebook, and Instagram . Strong skills in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Publisher. Familiarity with X (formerly Twitter) and basic webpage design/content management such as WordPress . At least two years of verifiable experience in social media and marketing, preferably in an educational, community-based nonprofit, municipal, or business setting. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including impeccable proofreading and grammar skills. Legal authorization to work in the United States. Successful completion of required background checks. Reliable transportation. Schedule Requirements The position requires flexibility to work: At least one weekday daytime shift; One weeknight until approximately 8:00 p.m. ; and One or two Saturday mornings per month. Evening and Saturday hours will generally occur during OCYL’s 8-week class seasons . Compensation & Benefits $22–$23 per hour This is a part-time, hourly position with no benefits , except for 16 hours of paid vacation annually .
