Design and implement scalable microservices and distributed systems. Integrate with upstream and downstream systems, devices, and data sources. Manage and optimise relational and non-relational databases, including schema design, query optimisation, and data integrity. Develop data processing, transformation, and analytics services. Implement application monitoring, logging, and observability capabilities. Troubleshoot application and integration issues to ensure reliability and performance. Work closely with frontend engineers, data teams, and business stakeholders to deliver technical solutions. Implement authentication, authorisation, and security best practices. Support testing, deployment, and production operations. Write clean, well-documented, and testable code and participate in peer reviews. Maintain technical documentation and system design artefacts. Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives. Support knowledge sharing across the project team. Experience & Skills Experience in backend software development and enterprise-grade applications. Strong programming proficiency in at least one of: Python, Node.js, or Java. Experience designing RESTful APIs, microservices, and backend integration services. Experience with relational and NoSQL databases, including query optimisation and data integrity. Experience with message queues, event-driven architectures, and system integration. Knowledge of software design patterns, enterprise application architecture, and secure coding. Experience developing and deploying cloud-native applications on AWS. Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes. Experience with GitLab, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile development.
