About JR Global JR Global is a growing international freight forwarding and customs brokerage company seeking an experienced Logistics Operations Supervisor to lead the day-to-day execution of our freight forwarding operations and manage the development and performance of our Logistics team. This is a hands-on operational leadership position requiring strong A–Z freight forwarding knowledge across ocean, air, import, export and domestic transportation , combined with the ability to manage, train and develop a team. We are looking for someone who does more than react to problems. The right candidate will maintain visibility over the operation, identify potential issues before they become service failures or financial losses, take ownership of resolving problems, and help prevent them from recurring. This position is responsible for managing the execution and quality of shipment files and the employees responsible for them. The Supervisor is not expected to personally perform every transactional function or make every booking. Key ResponsibilitiesTeam Leadership & Management Supervise the day-to-day activities of the Logistics team. Train, onboard, coach and develop Logistics Coordinators and operations staff. Serve as the first operational escalation point for the team. Provide clear priorities, direction and expectations. Monitor team workload and ensure proper coverage and ownership. Follow up to ensure assigned work is completed accurately and on time. Identify training, knowledge and performance gaps and work to correct them. Coach employees through mistakes and teach them how to independently handle similar situations in the future. Promote accountability, urgency, teamwork and proactive communication. Address routine operational performance issues and escalate significant personnel matters to senior management when appropriate. Proactive Problem-Solving & Operational Control Maintain visibility over active shipment files and identify potential problems before they escalate. Anticipate freight-release delays, last-free-day exposure, storage, demurrage/detention, missed cutoffs, documentation issues, delivery failures and other operational risks. Take ownership of operational issues and drive them through resolution. Investigate recurring problems, identify root causes and implement practical corrective solutions. Ensure the team operates proactively rather than waiting for customers, carriers or management to identify problems. Monitor high-risk, urgent and exception shipments. Determine when an issue should be handled within the Logistics team and when senior-management involvement is necessary. Follow through on issues to ensure they are fully resolved. Ocean Import & Export Oversee FCL and LCL import shipment files from pre-alert through final delivery. Ensure freight releases, cargo availability and last free dates are proactively monitored. Oversee CFS, terminal, carrier, rail/IPI and drayage coordination. Manage exposure to demurrage, detention, storage and per diem. Ensure empty-return requirements are properly managed. Oversee ocean export files from booking confirmation through sailing. Ensure vessel schedules, cutoffs, equipment requirements and documentation deadlines are properly monitored. Ensure AES, VGM and export-documentation requirements are completed timely. Monitor rollovers, schedule changes, equipment issues and other exceptions. Resolve escalated carrier, terminal, CFS, agent and transportation issues. Air Import & Export Oversee air import and export files throughout the shipment lifecycle. Ensure bookings and routings are properly managed by the responsible team member. Monitor flight schedules, cutoffs, cargo availability and recovery. Ensure MAWB/HAWB and required import/export documentation is handled properly. Monitor storage exposure and pickup/delivery requirements. Resolve escalated airline, terminal, overseas-agent and transportation issues. Domestic Transportation Oversee domestic transportation including local trucking, drayage, LTL and FTL. Monitor pickups, deliveries and appointment requirements. Ensure transportation exceptions and service failures are addressed proactively. Ensure POD and shipment-completion requirements are followed. Review avoidable accessorial charges and identify root causes. CargoWise, Processes & Quality Control Maintain operational visibility and control through CargoWise. Monitor shipment milestones, tasks and workflow completion. Ensure files contain accurate and timely operational information. Help develop, implement and enforce SOPs and standardized workflows. Identify operational gaps and inefficiencies and recommend practical solutions. Support improvements to CargoWise workflows, automation and operational controls. Ensure clear ownership of operational inboxes, tasks and shipment responsibilities. Monitor the quality and completion of work performed by internal and outsourced/back-office teams. Maintain awareness of shipment costs and operational profitability and identify avoidable losses. Required Qualifications 5+ years of international freight forwarding experience Strong A–Z ocean freight knowledge Strong working knowledge of air freight Experience with both imports and exports Domestic transportation and drayage knowledge Previous experience supervising, training and developing operations employees Strong understanding of FCL/LCL operations, freight releases, cargo availability, LFD, CFS operations, demurrage/detention and delivery coordination Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot complex freight-forwarding problems Demonstrated ability to anticipate operational risks and resolve issues before they escalate Ability to prioritize multiple urgent situations while managing the workload of a team Strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills Strong customer-service and problem-solving abilities Strongly Preferred CargoWise experience Customs brokerage/clearance knowledge Experience developing and implementing operational SOPs Experience improving operational workflows and processes Experience managing outsourced or back-office operations Who We’re Looking For We are looking for someone who combines strong freight-forwarding knowledge, proactive problem-solving and people leadership. The right candidate naturally asks, “What could go wrong with this shipment?” before something goes wrong. When an issue occurs, we expect the Supervisor to take ownership, determine the solution and follow it through to completion. When the same issue occurs repeatedly, we expect the Supervisor to determine why and help correct the underlying process. We are equally looking for someone who can develop people. A strong Supervisor does not simply fix an employee’s shipment for them — they help the employee understand the issue, show them how to resolve it and develop them so they can handle similar situations independently in the future. Our goal is to hire someone who can make the entire Logistics team perform better , not simply be the strongest individual operator on the team. Work Location & Schedule Full-time Monday through Friday In-person at our Great Neck, NY office This is not a remote position Compensation $80,000–$90,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
