Litigation Associate Attorney – Real Estate (1–3 Years’ Experience)

MacGeorge Law FirmAustin, TX 78746

Austin, Texas | Full-Time | Remote / Hybrid

Meaningful Litigation. Real Flexibility. Manageable Hours.

We are a growing litigation firm with offices in Austin and Houston, serving clients throughout Texas. We are seeking a Texas-licensed litigation attorney who wants meaningful courtroom work, ownership of their cases, and the flexibility to build a sustainable career without the punishing billable-hour requirements common at many firms.

What Sets This Position Apart

  • 1,000-hour annual expectation — substantially below traditional large-firm billable expectations; hours must be billed at the attorney’s full rate and the related fees collected
  • $91,000–$137,000 base salary, depending on experience and qualifications
  • Collection-based performance bonuses, with total annual compensation for strong performers reaching approximately $150,000 or more
  • Real schedule flexibility for attorneys who meet their obligations to clients, courts, and their cases
  • Fully remote work — work from home anywhere in Texas, with in-person attendance required only for court appearances and other proceedings when necessary
  • Early, hands-on courtroom and case responsibility with collaborative support — you will own your files while benefiting from regular strategy review and experienced colleagues’ guidance
  • Meaningful, access-to-justice work with a direct impact on clients’ lives

The Role

Our practice focuses on real estate litigation, and our cases range from relatively modest disputes to multimillion-dollar litigation, giving our attorneys exposure to an unusually broad variety of matters.

Your docket may include habitability and property-condition claims, security-deposit disputes, eviction defense, debt defense and consumer protection, contract disputes, foreclosures, post-judgment collection, real estate fraud and conversion, landlord trespass, and premises liability.

Associates take ownership of their files and are expected to move cases forward, including appearing in court as appropriate. At the same time, we work collaboratively, regularly reviewing cases and strategy as a team so attorneys have the benefit of their colleagues’ experience when difficult issues arise.

Associates also conduct prospective-client consultations and help evaluate which matters are right for the firm.

A Practice With a Purpose

We are, at our core, an access-to-justice firm.

Many of our clients come to us facing opponents with significantly greater resources and believing they have nowhere to turn. Our attorneys give them an effective advocate, enforce the protections available to them under Texas law, and have the opportunity to make a tangible difference in people’s lives.

Many Texans who need this advocacy are Spanish speaking. Spanish fluency is highly valued but not required.

If you enjoy advocating for people and fighting for the underdog—but do not want to sacrifice competitive compensation or career growth—this may be an excellent fit.

Who We’re Looking For

We are looking for a Texas attorney who is ready to take meaningful responsibility for an active litigation docket.

Required:

  • Active membership in the State Bar of Texas
  • At least one year of experience practicing law as a licensed attorney; newly licensed attorneys with strong litigation, trial-advocacy, clinic, internship, mock-trial, or moot-court experience are also encouraged to apply
  • Litigation, courtroom, or comparable trial-advocacy experience
  • Ability and initiative to manage a caseload and appear in court, with collaborative strategy review and support as needed
  • Strong legal research, drafting, and verbal advocacy skills
  • Working knowledge of, or the ability to quickly develop proficiency in, the Texas Rules of Civil Procedure and Texas Rules of Evidence
  • Professional reliability, responsiveness, accountability, and integrity

Strongly Preferred:

  • Demonstrated trial-advocacy ability or aptitude for courtroom litigation; first-chair or meaningful second-chair experience is a plus, but not required
  • Experience with the Texas Property Code and/or real estate litigation
  • Spanish-language fluency

Excellent writing is particularly important to our practice, and a strong writing sample will be an important part of our evaluation.

We are a technology-forward firm. Candidates should be comfortable learning and working with modern case-management, legal-research, client-intake and relationship-management, communication, and document-management platforms.

Compensation, Hours & Flexibility

Performance bonuses are tied to collected billings, and total annual compensation can reach approximately $150,000 or more for strong performers.

This position offers a sustainable, balanced practice with an annual expectation of 1,000 hours billed at the attorney’s full rate, with the related fees collected—allowing you to build a meaningful litigation career while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

We believe attorneys should be trusted to manage their docket and, within reason, their schedule. Attorneys who remain responsive to clients, courts, and opposing counsel and meet their case and performance obligations have meaningful latitude over how and when they work.

  • Firm-paid supplemental accident and short-term disability coverage
