The successful candidate will have a passion for discovering emerging artists, an extensive knowledge across all music genres, a strong understanding of Toronto’s live music venues and the experience to shape the overall NXNE 2027 lineup. Associate Programmers A small team of associate programmers will support the lead by contributing to each festival lineup across 30+ venues. The successful candidates will be team players and have a deep knowledge and expertise in several genres and music communities. Each programmer will be responsible for reviewing artist submissions in preparation for lively group meetings where final decisions are made. Together, the Lead Programmer and Associate Programmers will form a cohesive team with broad expertise across the full spectrum of music presented at NXNE. All members of the programming team will: Review and rate each artist submission in NXNE’s programming software Be familiar with NXNE venues Attend programming meetings in person and/or online Participate in showcase creation specific to appropriate venues Work effectively to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment Assist with artist changes/cancellations and evolving programming needs. Be given at least one optional shift at Artist Registration at NXNE HQ during the festival Lead Music Programmer – Additional Responsibilities The Lead Music Programmer oversees NXNE’s music programming from artist selection through festival delivery, leading a team of 3–4 programmers and working closely with the NXNE Production Manager. The Lead Programmer will: Lead the Programming team, including delegating responsibilities, managing workflows and keeping the artist review and selection process on schedule. Lead programming meetings and guide artist selection and programming decisions. Develop and oversee NXNE showcases, matching artists and genres with appropriate venues and building strong, cohesive lineups. Work with venues to understand updated programming requirements and coordinate artist and venue needs. Oversee artist relations, including offers, commitments, communications and required deliverables. Coordinate artists and bands in the lead-up to and throughout the festival. Work closely with the Production Manager and other NXNE staff to ensure programming is executed smoothly. Troubleshoot programming, artist and venue issues, including last-minute changes before and during the festival. Lead artist registration at NXNE HQ during the festival. Provide overall leadership and direction on programming and artist-related decisions throughout the festival.
