This position is suited to a technically capable professional who can manage estimating tasks independently, contribute to design development, identify project risks, and collaborate effectively with Australian-based stakeholders and offshore teams. Key Responsibilities1. Estimating and Cost Planning - Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for commercial landscaping, irrigation, turf installation, and associated civil works. - Review project drawings, specifications, tender documents, and scope requirements to establish project costs and resource needs. - Develop comprehensive cost breakdowns covering materials, labour, equipment, subcontractors, and installation requirements. - Evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations, validate pricing, and identify discrepancies or scope gaps. - Assess project risks, identify cost-saving opportunities, and recommend practical alternatives without compromising quality or compliance. - Independently manage estimating activities and deliver accurate submissions within required tender deadlines. 2. Quantity Takeoffs and Measurements - Conduct detailed quantity takeoffs from architectural, landscape, civil, hydraulic, and irrigation drawings. - Measure and calculate quantities for turf areas, planting zones, soil preparation, irrigation components, drainage, earthworks, and related landscaping materials. - Use digital takeoff tools to ensure accurate measurements and consistent estimating outputs. - Verify quantities against drawings, specifications, and site requirements, investigating discrepancies where necessary. - Interpret complex plans and identify missing information, design conflicts, or potential variations that may affect project costs. 3. Irrigation Design and Technical Layouts - Design and develop irrigation system layouts for commercial landscapes, sports fields, turf areas, and recreational facilities, including sprinkler placement, pipe routing, valve locations, zoning, and associated components. - Review irrigation plans to assess coverage, practicality, material requirements, and installation considerations. - Apply relevant hydraulic principles when assessing flow requirements, pipe sizing, pressure considerations, and system performance, within the scope of the role. - Coordinate irrigation design requirements with landscape plans, drainage systems, civil works, and project specifications. - Identify design improvements and practical alternatives to support efficient installation, cost control, and long-term system functionality. 4. Landscape, Turf, and Sports Field Design Support - Interpret and develop landscape-related layouts and technical drawings for commercial projects, turf installations, and recreational facilities. - Assist in planning turf areas, planting zones, soil preparation, grading, drainage, and associated landscape infrastructure. - Prepare or refine landscape and turf layouts based on project drawings, specifications, and site requirements. - Assess material quantities and installation methods for natural turf, synthetic turf where applicable, and related landscape works. - Coordinate turf and landscape requirements with irrigation, drainage, and civil construction elements. - Provide technical recommendations to improve constructability, material efficiency, and overall project outcomes. 5. Civil and Hydraulic Technical Input - Apply knowledge of civil construction and hydraulic engineering principles when reviewing project requirements and preparing estimates. - Interpret relevant civil, grading, drainage, and hydraulic drawings to support accurate takeoffs and practical design coordination. - Identify potential clashes, constructability issues, and technical risks affecting irrigation, landscaping, and civil works. - Ensure estimates and technical deliverables align with applicable Australian standards, codes, regulations, and project specifications. - Coordinate with engineers, designers, and project stakeholders where specialist technical review or design approval is required. 6. Estimating Software and Documentation - Use Groundplan for digital takeoffs, measurements, and quantity calculations. - Use Simpro for estimating, cost management, and related project workflows. - Used AutoCAD for designing layouts. - Utilize Microsoft Office applications to prepare estimates, cost summaries, reports, and supporting documentation. - Maintain accurate, organized, and traceable estimating records, drawings, material schedules, and project documentation. - Support improvements to estimating templates, digital workflows, and documentation processes. 7. Project Coordination and Stakeholder Communication - Work closely with Australian-based project managers, engineers, landscape professionals, suppliers, and subcontractors. - Coordinate with offshore team members to ensure estimating and design deliverables are accurate and completed on time. - Communicate technical queries, assumptions, exclusions, and project risks clearly. - Provide progress updates and contribute technical insights during tender reviews and project discussions. - Support continuous improvement in estimating accuracy, design coordination, and project delivery processes. Required Experience and SkillsRequired Experience - Minimum of 3 years of relevant construction estimating experience , preferably at an intermediate level or above. - Demonstrated experience in commercial landscaping, irrigation systems, turf installation, civil construction, or closely related projects. - Practical experience in quantity takeoffs, cost estimation, and interpreting technical construction drawings. - Experience preparing or interpreting irrigation layouts and landscape-related plans. - Working knowledge of civil and hydraulic concepts relevant to irrigation, drainage, and landscaping works.
