# Interior Designer **Designitude Associates LTD** · Maidstone ME14 5PP · `On-site` 🕒 **Статус:** *Опубликовано: 3 дня назад* · *Источник: Indeed* --- ### About the Role About DiA DiA is an architecture and interior design studio working across the UK and internationally from London, Cairo and Kent. Founded in London in 2007, our work spans architecture, interior design, hospitality, F&B, commercial, residential and multidisciplinary design. Our approach combines creative thinking with technical intelligence. We are interested in spaces that have an identity, a narrative and a reason behind the decisions that shape them. As our UK commercial and interiors portfolio continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced Interior Designer who can take creative ownership of projects and help lead them from research and early concept through design development and delivery. The Role We are looking for a designer who can think, research, create and lead . Someone who understands that a successful interior begins before the moodboard. You should be curious about the client, brand, location, audience, culture and purpose of a space, and be able to translate that research into a compelling design narrative. You will work closely with the Principal and multidisciplinary project teams, helping establish the creative direction of projects and then maintaining that direction as the design develops. This is not simply a production role. You will be expected to take ownership of interior design projects, communicate ideas clearly, direct design development, review the work of others and ensure that the original concept remains coherent through detailed design. What You'll Be Doing You will: Lead interior design projects and packages from briefing and research through concept and design development. Research clients, brands, locations, users, cultural references, competitors and relevant design precedents. Develop strong project narratives and conceptual design stories. Translate research and ideas into compelling visual and spatial concepts. Create and direct moodboards, material palettes, concept presentations and design narratives. Develop space-planning strategies and test different approaches against the project brief. Establish materiality, colour, texture, lighting intent and overall atmosphere. Develop FF&E concepts and product selections. Research materials, manufacturers, furniture, lighting, finishes and specialist products. Develop interior architectural concepts including ceilings, floors, walls, joinery and feature elements. Present design proposals internally and to clients. Communicate the reasoning behind design decisions clearly and confidently. Prepare clear briefs, sketches and mark-ups for project teams. Review plans, elevations, sections, reflected ceiling plans, joinery details, schedules and specifications. Review visualisations critically and provide clear creative direction. Coordinate interiors with architecture, MEP, lighting, structure, signage and specialist consultants. Participate in design reviews and multidisciplinary coordination meetings. Review material samples, finishes, furniture and product proposals. Maintain design quality as projects progress from concept into technical development. Support site and construction-stage design reviews where required. Contribute to the development of DiA's interior design standards, material libraries and design resources. Design Research & Storytelling Research is an important part of how we design. We are not looking for someone who begins every project by searching Pinterest for attractive interiors. You should be interested in understanding why a project should look and feel the way it does. Depending on the project, that could involve researching: place and context; history; culture; architecture; brand identity; customer behaviour; hospitality trends; materials and craft; art and fashion; food and culinary culture; movement and experience; local references; commercial positioning. You should then be able to distil that research rather than simply reproduce it. The result should become a clear design story capable of informing decisions about space, material, colour, furniture, lighting and detail. Concept Development You will help establish the creative DNA of a project. That may include: concept narratives; mood and atmosphere; spatial experience; zoning and planning; material palettes; colour strategies; furniture direction; lighting character; feature elements; artwork and styling; bespoke joinery concepts; customer journey; visual identity within the physical environment. We want someone who can move confidently between the big idea and the small detail . Design Leadership As projects develop, you will be expected to provide clear creative direction to wider project teams. That means being able to: explain what needs to be developed; prepare clear mark-ups and briefs; review work critically; identify when something has moved away from the concept; propose solutions rather than simply identifying problems; prioritise design decisions; maintain consistency across a project; review multiple areas without losing sight of the overall story. You do not need to personally draw every line to remain responsible for the quality of the design. We are looking for someone who understands how to lead design through other people as well as through their own work . Commercial & Hospitality Design Experience within commercial interiors is important. We would particularly welcome portfolios containing: hospitality; restaurants and F&B; hotels; workplace; retail; leisure; healthcare / clinical environments; branded environments; high-quality commercial fit-out. Hospitality and F&B experience would be particularly valuable. You should understand that commercial interiors must balance creativity with: operation; customer experience; circulation; accessibility; durability; maintenance; budgets; programme; services; buildability. Beautiful spaces that do not function are not successful projects. Technical Understanding You are not being recruited as a technical architect, but you should understand how interiors are actually constructed. You should be comfortable reviewing: plans; elevations; sections; reflected ceiling plans; flooring plans; setting-out drawings; joinery; doors; finishes; furniture layouts; lighting coordination; schedules; specifications. You should be able to identify when technical development compromises the design intent and work collaboratively with technical colleagues to find a better solution. Construction-stage and site experience would be advantageous. Software You should have strong working capability across relevant design and presentation software. Experience with the following would be beneficial: Adobe InDesign; Adobe Photoshop; AutoCAD; Revit; SketchUp or equivalent 3D design software; Microsoft Office. Experience working within BIM-led multidisciplinary environments would be advantageous. We are more interested in the quality of your thinking and output than an unnecessarily long software list. About You You are likely to have approximately 5+ years of professional interior design experience and be ready to take greater ownership of projects. You should demonstrate: a strong interior design portfolio; excellent conceptual ability; strong research skills; the ability to create compelling design narratives; excellent moodboard and presentation skills; strong space-planning capability; a sophisticated understanding of materials, colour and composition; experience developing FF&E; good technical understanding; experience reviewing drawing packages; strong visual communication; confidence presenting ideas; experience coordinating with multidisciplinary teams; the ability to provide constructive design direction; strong organisation and attention to detail; excellent written and spoken English. A recognised qualification in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, Architecture or a closely related discipline would be expected. The Person We're Looking For We are looking for someone with genuine curiosity. Someone who asks: Why this material? Why this colour? Why should the customer feel this way? What does this space say about the client? What makes this project belong here rather than anywhere else? You should care about creating interiors with identity rather than following trends for their own sake. We value people who: research before designing; have opinions but remain open to challenge; communicate ideas clearly; take ownership; give clear direction; pay attention to detail; understand commercial realities; can receive and give constructive criticism; follow projects through rather than losing interest after concept stage; care deeply about the quality of the finished environment. Your Portfolio Your portfolio is particularly important for this position. We want to understand how you think , not simply see polished final images. Where possible, show us: Research → Narrative → Concept → Mood → Space Planning → Materiality → Development → Detail → Finished Space For selected projects, clearly identify: your personal role; which elements you designed; whether you led or contributed to the project; what other team members produced under your direction; whether the project was built. We are particularly interested in seeing the thinking and development behind a project. Why DiA? This is an opportunity to join DiA during an important period of growth for our UK studio. You will work directly with the Principal and have genuine involvement in shaping the creative direction of commercial and international projects. You will have the opportunity to work across architecture and interior design rather than within an isolated interiors department, and to contribute to projects from their earliest ideas through to completed spaces. As the UK studio develops, there will be scope for increased creative and project leadership responsibility for the right person. Location: London / Kent, with travel to project sites, suppliers and meetings where required. Position: Full-time, permanent. How to Apply Please send us via email hr@design-itude.com: your CV; portfolio; current location; notice period; salary expectations. For at least one project within your portfolio, we would particularly like to see the design journey rather than simply the final result . Show us where the idea came from, how you developed it and what you personally contributed. DiA | Design-Itude Associates Where science and art break even.
